overheating RAM, does the engine shut off?

I've found a used 2005 RAM with the 5.9 (this would be my 2nd 5.9) that is a theft recovery. It sounds like whoever stole it drove it "like they stole it". In doing so they punctured the radiator. The salvage yard says they just got it in and haven't driven it much because of the leaking coolant.
But the guy told me he thinks it should be ok, because newer vehicles shut off when they overheat.
It sounds like a good precaution but not something i've heard before.

Can anyone shed some light on this? it's a great deal, if true...

I don't know about 2004.5 but my 2006 does shut down when overheating. It happened to me once and I had to wait about half hour before I was able to drive it again. Basically a red light came on and the truck just stalled. Didn't want togo anywhere until it cooled down and the light went away. Hope it helps.
