Ordered Lift pump from Geno's today

Got 70,400 miles on her, problem free. Thought i would go ahead and get the OEM lift pump and install it now.
The lift pump that is on the truck now is good, so when i take it off , how should it be stored for a back up?
Is there any thing i should be aware of when removing and installing a LP?
I think it comes with an inline filter. Should i use it or not? what is the service
for it?

Thanks

I ordered the replacement pump too and did not install the inline filter. I went to the parts house and got a 2' piece of fuel injection hose along with the fuel injection screw clamps (believe me, those rabbit ear ones in the kit are a pain).

Here are the steps you need to take:

1. Get the the above mentioned materials (hose and clamps)
2. Get a two liter coke bottle and drain the fuel from the filter housing
3. Get a vacuum line plug, stopper, or use one of the supplied hoses from the kit (you can use a bolt to stop one end up)
4. Disconnect the fuel pump line from the fuel tank line (use whatever you had from #3 to stop the flow from the tank and the same coke bottle to capture fuel from the pump)
5. Remove the old fuel pump with allen wrenches (be sure to use your finger to find and remove the old O ring from the filter housing)
6. Install the new pump with the new O ring (use the goop that came with the kit)
7. Prepare the new fuel line by clamping the quick disconnect to one end and "eyeballing" how much line you will need (I trimmed about 2-3 inches)
8. Put the other clamp loosely on the other end of the new fuel line and then attach to the new fuel pump (now comes the quick part)
9. Remove the stopper from the tank line and plug with one finger while you use your free hand to: remove the old plastic retainer, apply some of the same goop from the kit on the bulb end of the metal line, and then slide the new quick disconnect on till you here it click in place.
10. Route the new line into the old hose retainer on the frame

I sealed up my old pump (with the plastic retainer and old O ring) in some plastic bags as a spare.

All I can say is I was lucky mine failed in my driveway. You will have to work from the top and through the wheel well so go ahead and pull the driver's side tire.

I did install the filter and have not noticed any difference from the original even with stepping on it - Smarty 3, Quad 100hp. I will upgrade this one day, but for now, can't beat the price.

Has anyone used the lift pump from BD, they have an OEM replacement and one that helps the factory lift pump if it's still working.
I need to order one and they are about the same price as Geno's but wasn't sure if it was a better option. It install on the frame and pushes the fuel instead of trying to pull it all the way from the tank.
Any thoughts?

It's pretty easy to change the filter mounted pump so why change it before it's time is up? Just keep your spare with you along with the proper tools. Get yourself a fuel gauge to monitor it and when you see the FP start dropping then you know it's time to change it....
