Opinion needed on ball joints fo 06

Hi, I thought a had a wheel bearing going on my 06 2500. After moving things around I seen a small amount of play on my top ball joint. I put a pry bar behind it and wiggle the tire and it goes away. The truck only has 35,000 miles on it. The movement isn't much but its more than the other side. I had the death wabble and starting to look for problems. All other suspension and track bar looks good. I'm thinking that I will change the ball joints. I'm in Canada and moog ball joints are around $85 and I contacted XRF in Canada and they told me $100 for theirs. For the little extra is it worth putting in XRF ball joints? Is their any other brand I should look at? Can't see myself putting in the dodge ones again. The truck is factory and no lift. Any info would be great. I'm just wondering if a little play is ok in these ball joints or are they suppose to be tight. Maybe they don't really need to be changed. Thanks.

you really need to check with a dial indicator, I think. The spec in the service book is around 0.090" combined, top and bottom. I've had the truck in to one shop, and they saw "some movement" without really measuring, but then I took it in to Dodge for a second opinion, and they said they were "within spec". I guess it comes down to steering feel and tire wear, and ultimately what you can tolerate. Obviously, if you notice it driving, they probably need changing.

Yep, .090". The dealer tech just checked mine and they're at .120" on the right side. The top on the left side has already been replaced. It's driving fine ATM, though, so I'm going to wait a bit before changing them.

TravisP30,

You need to read the ball joint thread posted by others on this board.... Save yourself a LOT of misery!

Moog will NEVER go on my truck after reading what so many others have gone through.

If you'd read the posts you'd see the uppers are not the problem. The lower will make you pull your hair out.

If you can't afford the carli's or dynatrac's, then use XRF!
