The ongoing $100 deductible saga....
yeah Houndog...but for the longest time if you put the part # in for the "in tank lift pump" for a common rail, the 14 would show that it wasn't covered under the Cummins warranty, but if you took the original part number and ran it, it would show covered and the claim itself would supercede for the new in tank retro-kit. Then you have the "overlapping" service contract issues to sift through too. Stupid stuff like that is why the service dept sometimes gets the $100. I can recall all sorts of times where people were reimbursed for issues like that. I can also think of many times where the customer, and even I thought it sounded like a probable warranty issue, and the issue was non warranty. Most recent event I can think of was a truck that was diagnosed elsewhere (independant shop) for a lift pump so the came to us because it was warranty, and the actual prob was a corroded ground circuit... I'm fortunate not to be overly involved in the "what's covered, what's not" theater, but if it's out of basic I make DANG sure there is money on the ticket.
I did too.Amazes me on the attitude about dealers. You can't lump all them in together. Each shop stands on its own.The Chrysler store I was at we ran through about 100 vehicles a day every day unless we were REAL busy and then might hit 125/150 daily.Yes DAILY and only about 8% was warranty work.Must have been doing something right as this was day in and day out.Independents sent us LOTS of work.If it CAN"T be fixed out there it ALWAYS ended up where? At the DEALER.
You are right though and I agree, I have also seen some pretty messed up independant work as well. As far as lumping everyone together it is no different than me being labled as stupid just becasue I am a Marine when some young Marine does something stupid out in town off of base. We all get lumped together in some way shape or form.
Merry Christmas
JBody and Hounddogg, let us know where you work, and we would be happy to use your Dealership, but for every one of you that are qualified, there are entirely too many Techs that cannot figure their way out of a wet bag.
Please don't take our posts as a slam directed at you, they are directed at people saying they are a Tech because they stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
And yes, the same applies to Amateurs..............

Unfortunetly, it is trial and error finding a good tech at a dealer and a good dealer. I finished my degree and stepped away from the job myself. You'll know if you find a good dealer. If you do, take care of them, not many of them these days cause some don't want to pay squat to their good techs, so they leave. I had three dealers around me and I will only use one of them. One went out of business and the other one tries to play God to much and they still couldn't fix an electrical problem if it jumped up and bit em in the butt.
call dodge customer service
Call dodge customer service, you will talk to someone in india, that is how I got my $100 back. They agree with me that you don't pay the deductable until 5yrs or 70,000 miles on my 04 Oh, first person disagree with me BUT after I call again the second person had the book in front of him and agree that I was correct.HE call the dealer and told them to refund my money back.
I retired on 2001.India was suppose to have been fired.I talked to a gal in "EXTENDED SERVICE CONTRACTS' at the same Chrysler 1-800-992-1997 and she said too many folks raising cain about getting INDIA when calling customer service.
