Ongoing Pyro issue, question

How important is pyro probe depth?

I put in an Isspro (with amp) when I got my truck, It always seemed to take way to long to come up to temp, and generally slow to respond, I had talked to a guy where I bought it, and Isspro, none of their suggestions really seemed to help, so yesterday I got a new one (no charge) to see if that fixed it. It is better, but still dosen't come up to idle temp real quick, I started it and let it idle for 30 secconds before leaving, and within 100 yards I was at 300 degrees. But what is really bugging me is that if I let it idle for a few minutes it will cool down to 150* and I have never heard of seeing idle temps that low. The probe is pre turbo, located according to the TST instructions.

Or what else could be causing the low idle temps? It responds better, and temps when driving seem to be much better (before they were low from "normal" by about 100-150*)

I don't think it's the wrong probe. On my Isspro pyro, I'm using a Autometer probe and I have no problems.

Both times it is an all new setup, all Isspro... When I replaced it I replaced the probe, amp box, and gauge.

Have you noticed peak temps being lower? Or just slow to respond when you first start it?

Both, it's even getting now where the cruising temps seem to be a little bit low. The truck idles @ about 100-150*

This might be off the wall thinking but the connections were you bolt the probe to the other wires is the little insulation boot there or is it ripped? it could be letting cooler air comin in off the cowel and thus cooling it there.??? The only time my issapro gauges goes below 300 is when iam ideling down hill and givin no throttle but soon as i touch the skinny she starts to climb again.

Yeah they are in place... Does yours come up to temp right away first thing when you start it?

The temperature of the probe connection wires has nothing to do the readings the probe is taking. The insulation boot is to keep them from grounding out. A thermocouple works by using two dissimilar metals connected at one end. The two dissimilar metals produce a voltage at a given temperature at the point where the two metals join. This voltage is then used by the guage to show temperature. You can tell what type of probe it is by the color of the wire. A type "J" will be one white wire and one red wire. A type "K" will be one yellow wire and one red wire. The red wire always being negative. The type of thermocouple used will determine the temperature range that the thermocouple is used for. A type "J" is good from 32F to 1382F. And a type "K" is good from -328F to 2282F. That is why you need to make sure if you replace the probe only you need to make sure you put the correct one on or the guage calibration will be off.

Did you change just the probe or the whole assembly (gauge, Amp & Probe)

Ya when i start the truck it hops right up to 300. When I get on the pedal to leave it goes to 600 thats just pretty much farting around down the drive. When i get on the highway it runs up to 850-900 i cant make it reach 1000 empty but i can get it to 1050 1100 depending on load an what hill
