Oil Testing?

I need to have my oil tested.

How do I go about doing this?

I asked some of the quick lube places and they have no idea what I'm talking about.

Thanks
Greg

Is it a normal lab? Or petroleum specific?
I have a place here called Evergreen Labs that has done soil and water testing for me in the past. I'm not sure they are still in business, I'll check and see. I hate the thought of shipping a small oil sample across the country.
Thanks

Question Why test?

I have been trying to figure out the benefit for the regular guy to test his oil? If the goal is to see how far you can extend an oil change, that is sort of a no-no with DC because you have to change it at 7500 or 15000 miles depending on the way the truck is used.

If you keep spending $16.00 per test, could that no just go for replacing the oil? I am not trying to be a smart ***, I just don't see how having my oil tested benefits the regular guy. When I hit 22,500 miles (I have been changing oil every 7500), I will go synthetic and then will go 12000 miles for all my future changes (this is about 1/2 way between the 7500 & 15000).

UOA

I had mine tested at blackstone . Its not an issue to send it across country its in a bottle inside a plastic zip lock bag inside another bottle. They e-mail you the results and send a copy in the mail to. Takes about 5 days to get the e-mail results . I dont plan on doing regular uoa. I want to change my oil once a year or 12 to 14 k miles. The only sure fire way to know the oil you choose and the interval are correct for your engine is to have it tested. My first uoa was at 7300 miles and 7 months on the oil. All was better than average , next test will be with a year of service and less than 15k miles. If the sample comes back good i will have proven the oil and interval are correct for my truck. 2 tests 40$ thats a cheap investment. Thats how i see it anyways

I'm wanting to monitor the Silicates in my oil, I drive dirt roads sometimes and have the AFE filter.
I change my oil at 6k intervals no matter what, that's just the way I am (I drive about 2k miles a month).
I have 25k on my truck and am going to Amsoil synthetic next change.
Depending on the tests after that, I may go longer. BUT no more than 7500mi. I don't care how much I spend on oil changes, it's all a tax write off in my business.

I want this engine around for hundreds of thousands of miles.
Boxes get good synthetics too. Rear diff got changed at 15k. Trannys tonight w/ Amsoil syn.

Thanks for the link, I'll contact them.
