oil spew
oil spew
Well my truck turned 20k not to long ago. This weekend took my quad and another on a trailer 70 miles north to visit fopr the weekend and go riding. up there switched to a bigger trailer and put both my quads and another two. Biggest load to date yet no more than 5k 5.5k lbs. Anyways dropped off the trailer last night and this morning noticed oil covering the tail gate and underside. Found the oil aspirating from a 5/8, 3/4 hose between the oilpan and front diff. Called my dealership and they said usually there is a collector (didnt notice it on another truck later at the dealership. So not sure what their talking bout...) any how drove about 25 minutes and stopped to check out the oil level and condition. Looks like it was spilling more. Anyhow before i stopped completely i heard a chime and saw check guages light . Oil pressure fell so i shut it down . Let it sit, restarted and oil presuure picked up then after a bit dropped down. After that i called a tow truck. Heard too many horror stories on here of burnt up engines not too.
BTW did not smell diesel in oil. its at dealership. their closed now so hopefully ill find out something tomorrow.
the worst was iding in the 94 ford flat bed that could barely make some of the hills in 2nd or third.

There is a blow-by hose that runs down. On my '01 it had a canister about the size of a soup can. My'06 doesn't have a canister, it just dumps out. Don't know what to tell you about the oil press., though.
3rd gens do not come with a catch bottle on the breather hose, like the earlier ones did.
When you said you checked level, was it high? It generally takes 5 minutes or more for the oil to get back into the pan on my truck.
When you hear about oil spewing out the breather, it is usually an injector leaking fuel into the crankcase...

Got the call today. #5 injector they found leaking. injector is on backorder so at least a couple of days. Now i have to go back and find all the injector issues cause they always seem to snowball once one goes down. now im thinking better micron fuel filters...
Well I have the truck back exactly one week later. They replaced the number 5 injector and checked the intercooler for oil contamination as per STAR's recomendations and found it clean. The service rep said it was good that I opted to get the tow.
I'm worried about the 35 miles I drove with it happening.
Ok so here I am looking for some measures for preventing a repeat coincidence.
I think I should take an oil sample after 500 miles at the least or just go and do a full change. ( I was just getting ready to switch to synthetic too which is why I think a sample would be helpful no matter what.)
I asked the service rep if they checked the fuel filter and he said no. That doesnt seem right to me but who am I to argue? ( someone whose heard about fuel tank open elbows and contamination in the tanks, etc.. Thanks guys!
) So I want to replace it soon with the newer 7 micron filter.
Speaking of the tank I guess thats something to get off my mind and fix with a breather hose.
SO other than an oil sample and change along with a new fuel filter (oil of course too) what else should i do?
What about preventative? I use power service (actually had just started using it every tankful since they have switched to the lower sulfur fuels). maybe a better fuel filter setup?
thanks for any helpful recomendations!

Don't worry about the 35 miles without oil I did 200 miles on diesel fuel only when my #3 injector blew, its been 6000 since then and runs fine its just the other 5 injectors that are rattling that bug me.
