Oil question

I am having a hard time getting valvoline part #591839 premium blue classic 5Gal CI4. I can easily get fleetrite 15/40 CI4.

Is it worth the expense to ship the valvoline or is the fleetrite adequate?

Don't make this a CI4/CJ4 thread, I decided on CI4. Thanks.

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
I seriouslly doubt any benefit can be derived from expense of shipping. You might run a EOA after 5000 miles or so to assure meeting your requirments.

I wouldn't pay to get PB shipped. Ask your local NAPA if they will get it. They have a contract with Valvoline. Also their oil is Valvoline Oil. Also fleetrite sounds good if there is no extra shipping cost.

I have used Valvoline Premium Blue 15w40 and Extreme 5w40 a few times and had excellent results from my oil analysis. One other option you may wish to consider if you're having a hard time getting the Valv is to try JohnDeere +50 15w40. It is very comparable to the Valvoline Premium Blue as far as additive pack is concerned (I've checked on bobistheoilguy.com) and ONLY comes as a CI4 oil... none of that CJ crap...
You can get it at any JohnDeere dealership for around $13 a gallon which is a steal for what you get, in my opinion.

Not to mention that JD Oil will be Ci4+ Starting in may. A step up from the already good CI4

Thanks trik and Roper.

My plan is to change oil on Thursday. The current 5,1XX Valvoline PB will get drained and I'll send a sample to blackstone. I'll replace it with the JD +50 and sample it after 5K.

This will be it's first blackstone.

Truck has 40,9XX miles. Delo since 1st oil change at 500 miles until Valvoline PB at 35K. Tows my 10K 5r 4-7 times a year, maybe 4K of towing out of 20K unloaded.

I'll quit using it as daily transportation when it is paid for and then hopefully it will spend most of it's miles getting worked.
