Oil overfilled. should I drain?

I just got my truck back from the dealer for the lift pump to in tank conversion. While my truck was ther they chhanged the oil. I should have checked the oil before I left but I didn't. It is at least 2" over on the dipstick. I always put in a qt and a 1/2 less than it calls for and that puts me right on the top of the full mark. Do you think my dipstick is off? will 2 qt.s over hurt anything?
Thanks
Mule

I will go with your dip stick being off unless you have a real big dent in the bottom of your oil pan.

My 06 calls for 12 quarts and it is a hair under the full mark.

Mine is slightly over the full mark with 12 qts. Cummins calls out for 12 qts (with filter) so I go by that, and not the dipstick.

I had my oil changed twice at the selling dealer. Each time, they overfilled by a qt. I ultimately concluded that they filled the filter when installing and then added 12 qt.. It was still slightly overfull when I next changed it myself. A total of 12 quarts brought it to the full mark.
A letter to the dealer about it was unanswered.

I had this happen to me recently. Dealer overfilled and it came out the overflow on my brother-in-law's driveway (not cool). He said, "Hey, your truck is leaking!". I said, "Can't be. It has never leaked." There was a small puddle (couple of inches in diameter). I blamed it on someone else because my truck has never leaked before. Then, I remembered that I had the oil changed at the dealer recently. Sure enough, the dipstick showed it was overfilled (although I don't recall how much over it was). I posted here and everyone said to leave it alone. A few days later, no drips. I wouldn't worry about it.

A couple INCHES over??? That makes no sense at all... You sure you have a Cummins under the hood??? Or maybe someone swapped out your dipstick and now you have the wrong one?

If you do infact have more il than needed, be careful. Too much oil can not only blow your seals, it can cause the crank to slap the oil and foam up making it near impossible for the pump to distribute the oil properly. This goes for all motors.

Always 12 qt here to. Fill the filter with one of them of course. Puts it pretty high on safe, but not over. You'd think the dealer would go by the book and put a total of 12 qts in but I doubt it. Everytime my dad gets his oil changed, it's overfull, when I bought my truck the dealer had the oil changed, it was overfull to. Doesn't really care, if something happens it's their problem. The one time they got it right, was because they left the drain plug loose and it leaked, was down over 2 qts by the time it was back to the dealer

I think if the dealer overfilled my truck I'd care. It might be their problem if something happened but with my luck the problem would happen when I was a thousand miles from nowhere, with no cell coverage and on Sunday. You bet I'd care---

With 2 inch level kit my 06 took 13 quarts with filter to full mark.
