walt_mink,
The dog did you a favor. You had the wrong type of oil filter wrench. The cup type used from underneath with a couple of extensions works the best. Ruff! Ruff!

I know, I know - I went out and bought one to make my second attempt, but the socket just spun on the drive end. I guess plastic isn't the best material to make these out of ... then again, who the hell expects the filter to be that tight? I figure my sanity is worth the price of getting the dealer to break their tools on it, so they're doing it this afternoon.

As for the dog - it's owner felt so bad about it that he went for a swim to fetch it for me. I didn't have the heart to tell him that I had given up on it. I guess I owe him a sixer.

Advance Auto carries the metal cup style oil filter wrenches. That's what I have and it has worked flawlessly.

I got mine at Auto Zone for like 3 or 4 dollars. It is metal. I think it is a "C" size. Worked great.

I'm lucky... The same filter wrench I've been using on all my MOPAR's 72,73,76,77,96, and my 02 are the same size...

The filter wrench was given to me by a good friend of the family when I got my first car. 1973 Dodge Charger.

I've been lucky I've never run into a filter that wrench couldn't take off... At least on the DODGE's Or MOPAR's

On honda motorcycles... Grab a long shank phillips screwdriver and punch that puppy!
