Oil Consumption

Truck is an 05 with 75000 on the odometer. Work truck towing 40 ft. gooseneck hauling upwards of 15000 lbs. consumes 1qt. every 800 to 1000 miles. Is this normal??

Other then the oil consumption the truck runs fine. The trailer itself weighs 7500 lbs. I don't have any gauges . coolant temperature can go up to 210 if towing real heavy. Engine does not smoke going down the road. I know when they say engine burns oil its a problem with the rings. I was thinking maybe engine heat burning the oil off???

That would really worry me but your truck works a lot harder than mine. Maybe the heat is thinning your oil out too much (if thats possible). What kind of oil are you running?

Been using Valvoline Premium Blue 15W40. The thing is without pulling that trailer and some weight on it, just bobtailing around it won't use any oil.

Sounds like excessive blow by. Is there any oil coming out of the puke tube or, when you look under the truck does it appear that there is oil dripping on top of the diff? My truck does that and for long distances it even rolls up onto the tailgate and the rear tire wells, but I know my rings are shot.

All motors use oil on the highway. With that kind of load I'd be willing to guess it's not half throttle or less helping you move along. A non forced induction engine will use oil with a load on it, and a forced induction motor can only be worse. Adding compression to the motor all the time is bound to compress the crankcase some. I'd look under the truck at the blow-by tube to see if it is wet. I use engine degreaser every so often and then spray with brake clean to assure it is dry and oil free. This is how I monitor my vehicles if the oil is disappearing. My under engine area will be nasty after towing my camper somewhere. Lots less when unloaded. I was in doubt before I learned this too. I took a trip from Raleigh to Memphis and back. About 1300 miles all highway, cruise set and rolling. Pretty new F-150. 3/4 qt to there. Another 1/2 on the way back. This was deemed acceptable as no other oil loss ever. Got into diesel shortly after that.
