Hey, I like people just fine, I just don't want 'em living next door to me!!! I just hate to call out of the blue, I know I don't like it when it happens to me. But I do have this burning sensation in my wallet that I need to alleviate!!

Gumby - have no fear- they may even answer 'tri county machine" during the day...he is a business and that's how he sells his products - so it's not weird or out of the blue for you to call. He doesn't make these things by hand so he can set them on his shelves to look pretty

Has anyone used a Puredyn system? I've been reading their website & it looks like they have a pretty good system. They filter to less than 1 micron & then heats the filtered oil to 200+ degrees to evaporate any water and/or coolant left.

Boy you really really don't want to call eh?

Here you go - just found it - and there should be contact info... The website isn't very detailed and he doesn't email very often - I don't think he types - but he can sure cut billet! http://www.jasonh.net/john

Good One!!! I'll call, I promise!!! But, I did a google on 'bypass oil filter' on google & found a discussion on bobistheoilguy.com about the Amsoil dual bypass kit having a problem with REALLY reducing oil pressue due to it's design. Have you noticed a drop in pressure? I'd hate to kill my engine by trying to something I thought was supposed to be good for it!!

I haven't noticed any loss in pressure, and hadn't heard about that problem, although I haven't visited bob's site in a while. The oil pressure gauge on our trucks is commonly referred to as an idiot light - it's not even close to accurate - so I have no way of really telling. My oil analysis results with the system are fantastic, so I'm not sure what better indicator there is of how the system is doing...

Mr. Strenkowski's Prices

Mr. Strenkowski's system sounds really good. I called him, awhile back, and his mount with the Amsoil Dual Bypass system was $440.50.

I believe the story you heard about the Amsoil Dual Bypass system causing problems with oil preasure was posted on the "bobistheoilguy.com" website on the "Bypass Filters" forum. There was a guy that put a system on his sisters Subaru and the engine burned up, twice. I don't believe anyone ever figured out exactly what happened. That does, however, seem to be a very isolated incident. Many people have these systems and love them.

PS: Mr. Lightman, your comment about the "drain" of the Oilguard system into the valve cover was very interesting. Have you ever heard of that design causing any problems? Oilguard has quite a few systems on the market and this is the first time I have ever heard of a potential problem. I'm going to have to look into that, further.

Joe Buffalo, no I can't say that I have heard of any problems. It may just be specifically my diesel mercedes engine has the weird specs not to pour oil straight into the hole. In my VW, I had the valve cover tapped and an oilguard bypass filter. Never had an issue. In the mb in particular though, it even specs in the service manual to pour toward the front side of the timing chain...who knows.

I didn't realize the setup was that pricey, but the stuff is top notch, and saves you some headaches down the road. I will say that the install time with a system like John's is very short, and requires no drilling or fabricating. You also don't have to deal with the compression fittings on the hoses, cutting hoses to the right length, making sure hoses don't rub and cause vibration/noise, building a custom mount, etc. His billet adapter is also adjustable in a lot of directions and much heavier duty than the amsoil adapter. There are always trade off's....time, sweat, cuts, and spilled oil drips vs money FYI he offers the kit without the stainless braided hoses, which cuts down the cost about $60 I believe.

I just must warn that if you like or have to change your bypass filters hot, the oilguard is a somewhat nasty finger burning mess. At least the one I had was - it had a nice looking polished cannister that you had to open with a strap wrench, oil dripping and hot, and then grab the actual yarn filter element and unthread it from the head. It's just a little more mess and hassle than a simple spin-on, but it's not awful.

Buffalo, I'm assuming that the price you quoted included oil & shipping?

That's actually not a bad deal at all the more I think about it. Dealer cost on a bmk-15 amsoil kit is $175. Then add the billet mount kit and adapter which is easily worth another $150 (the adapter is such a nice piece). Then add stainless braided hoses and all of the necessary hydraulic fittings - which if any of you have shopped for fittings at a hydraulic store know are not cheap. Add to that the time spent testing and figuring this setup out, so we can just bolt it on with pre cut and assembled hoses etc - I don't think it's that unreasonable

Mr. Gumby.

I'm sorry but, I can't tell you that. Mr. Strenkowski was rattling off figures and I was writing them down as fast as I could and didn't write down what the figures pertained to. I, also, was more interested in the bottom line. I called him a month or two, ago and just don't remember what figures are what.

Feel free to call him. He's a nice man to talk to. His wife seems to have all the figures, though.

He definitely is a nice guy, and is just about as into and loves to talk about these cummins trucks as any of us are. A few times I realized we were blabbing for 45 mins about non amsoil related Cummins topics

AMSOIL Dual Bypass system

I just ordered the AMSOIL dual bypass system. It costs about $170 from AMSOIL (as a preferred customer). Below is the info from John (TDR: CPFF) for his custom bracket system that mounts above the exhaust manifold. I have pictures of the install too if anyone is interested. Hope this helps.

Kimo

The cost of the mounting kit (engine bracket, billet aluminum adapter,
stainless steel hoses) is $264 plus shipping. Shipping to your area
would be $15. If you want a kit, just send a check for $279 and specify
whether you want red or black powdercoat. If you have more questions, just
give us a call.
