oil analysis
oil analysis
How many of you do oil regular oil analysis samples?
How often do you do them and where do you prefer to send them to?
I've done them for many years on aircraft, but never on my personal vehicles.
Thanks,
Frank

I will do them for customers on request, and reccommend them for people who drive over the road and put on 100,000 miles a year. When new every other oil change and when 500,000 plus miles every oil change. That way you have a good baseline and watch it closer when wear needs to be watched. Some people will use the analisys to determine their specific oil change intervals according to their driving. Sometimes you can extend intervals and save. If you drive short trips and have lots of cold starts you probably don't want to extend the intervals.
You can contact a local oil distributor where they sell bulk oil to get hooked up for oil analisys. Some will give you a few free ones if you buy your oil by the drum.
Hope this helps.

I have taken a sample at every oil change since new I now have about 18,000.
I think I have done four so far. I think I will do the same until 50,000 miles or so.
If I see no problems in the first 50K the next 200K should be problem free??
I send mine to Blackstone in Fort Wayne IN about $17 a sample.
