I ran a lot of red in my truck durrin the hurricanes, and yes it was legal it was all you could get and I was puttin about 1,000 miles a month on my truck so I ran a lot of it. No problems here.

Also FWIW, we had a guy get caught that works for us and it was $1,000. No per gallon fees or anything else, just a grand.

I don't even run red in my tractor. It is normaly not as fresh and very easy to get some with water so I just run on road diesel in my tractor. Not to mention it is a pain to get around here. Only place that sells it is not open on Saturday.

That being said, there are some exceptions for farmers that are typically handled on a state by state basis. As a rule, if you get popped for using off road fuel, well..............sucks to be you. Get ready for 2 audits, one from the state you're in and one from the feds. The government gets real **** about folks who cheat on their taxes.
Well the government doesn't seem to mind spending our taxes and soical security on their FAT retirement incomes.

That is correct D-Roc "The Rock" is Newfoundland, Canada. In reference to my other posts my father lives in Alberta. Farm diesel is dyed purple and the same thing goes up here. DOT can spot check anyone, anytime, anywhere and for any reason. If you are found to be running purple diesel or gas for that matter without having farm plates then you are given a court apperance notice first thing and then the judge will determine your fine.

I once was checked right off I-35 at the Texas-Oklahoma border for the red dye in my tank. Only once in 8 years and 185,000 miles on two Dodge trucks with Cummins engines.
A few years ago while having my 2000 serviced at Cummins Southern Plains, the service writer/mechanic told me that off road diesel did not have the additives that No. 2 fuel does and it would shorten the life of the VP44 on the truck.
I've been told here on this forum that there is no difference between the two. But there are differences in fuel between different areas, all depending on the bulk fuel distributors. They are the ones that put in the additives.
In rural Oklahoma lots of ranchers/farmers run off road diesel in their trucks all the time. But I really don't want to take the chance of a large fine or damage to my fuel system.
