offroad diesel
Answer to your question.....
Off road diesel is usually the same as regular diesel but 2 differences. First it has red dye in it. Second there are no road taxes within it's price. Some have said that it may also be the high sulpher fuel in some areas. Just remember it's illeagel and if found using it on the road the fines are quite steep. Will you get caught, maybe as some states pull over any diesel and you have to decide if the fine is worth the small savings in fuel cost. If you are running completely off road, no problem till you get to the 07 and up trucks, if under 07 then as far as the fuel differences no problem.

I use it in my skid steer, when I can find it. Off road fuel is intended for non-power engines (i.e. reefer units, aux. power units, etc.) and off road construction and farm vehicles. If the vehicle is licensed to run on the highway, don't use off road diesel.
I've been checked a couple of times while driving my semi, but never in the Dodge. The officer that was dipping my tank told me that the fine was $100.00 a gallon. Since the red dyes any and all diesel in the tank, that would be a big fine.

Man it sucks to be you guy's. Up here in the Great White North as long as you have your truck registered as a farm vehicle you can run farm diesel. (which is the same as your offroad diesel). The price difference is also quite dramatic being 25 cents a litre. So needless to say my Dad run it all of the time.
you can run it "ON THE FARM" you get caught "ON THE PUBLIC STREET" any where in the USA with red fuel it's a $2500.00 fine + $100.00 per gallon...
hardly worth it
I run it in my tractors but thats it...oh yea and to heat my home (but I NEVER take my house "down the road")

Like mentioned earlier, we don't have open discussions of violating Federal law. Off road diesel will run fine in an engine designed for diesel but, in the U.S. it's use is regulated through taxation. Off road fuel is not taxed the same as over the road fuel and because of that it is illegal to use it in a vehicle operated on the highway. That being said, there are some exceptions for farmers that are typically handled on a state by state basis. As a rule, if you get popped for using off road fuel, well..............sucks to be you. Get ready for 2 audits, one from the state you're in and one from the feds. The government gets real **** about folks who cheat on their taxes.

The rock is rock springs, wy. And its nothing great, it is so cold up there eskimos cry. I had the displeasure of visiting once for 3 1/2 weeks of total misery. I like the Great Humid South..........

As for OR diesel i know a guy who got inspected in a 1 ton here in houston and his fine was somewhere in the range of 12-13k. He had his aux tank tied to his truck tank and both where full of farm diesel
.
And i am not sure what else they got him for as he spent around 18 months arguing with Uncle Sam and local authorities. I have a 5k gal OR and a 7.5k Road tank on my yard and have NEVER tapped into the OR for any of my trucks. YOU SHOULD NOT RUN ANY DYED DIESEL IN YOUR TRUCK, PERIOD. I only know a few of us that could swing that fine more than once without a tear or two...........
