Thumbs down NV5600 or rear end??

Ok so I was on the freeway doing about 75 for only a few miles got off the freeway pulled into my hotel (oh yeah I'm 7 hours from home) as I pulled in truck started acting weird almost like a stuck caliper squealing some I pull up back into a spot then while someone listened I pulled forward and it squealed then like completely stopped my truck back up squealed some more then I stopped shut it off checked in brought in my bags then went to figure it out maybe 20 minutes later pulled forward nothing backed up nothing then went and started driving towards the back of the parking lot and then the rear end locked up leaving 4 nice tire marks on the ground but then loosened up and went this continued for the like 2 minutes going slow it would stop my truck then like release then happen again. I crawled under it no fluid by the rear but there was a little coming from the rear by the drive shaft but also some by where the bell housing meets the block going down onto the oil pan which was not there 2 days ago when I changed my oil. So am I replacing a tranny or just adding fluid?? I'm not sure what to do??

At this point in the game adding fluid ain't gonna fix it!!!!! I'd pull the diff cover and see what's happening in the pumpkin.....see if it can be turned by hand. If so, you're looking at a not so good outcome as the gear case is probably screwed!! Don't sound good what's happening. When's the last time you checked the fluid level in the 5600? They need fluid.....more than what's mandated in the service manual.

Let it sit (overnight) and see if maybe your calipers somehow locked down and wouldn't release....that's a way easier fix than a diff or trans. Did you happen to feel and see if the wheels were hot....from a dragging caliper?

I already checked all calipers last night and they were fine it is definitely either rear end or transmission

I had a tractor do similar things, one of the pinion bearings went bad, the cage was destroyed and allowed the rollers to slop around and once they all landed at bottom of the bearing it would bind and lock the rear wheels and skid to a stop. thus slamming you into the steering wheel. If you backed up and unwedged the rollers you could go forward again till they bound up.
Might check for play in pinion yoke or pull cover,

I would add another QT to the trans as they are running too low on oil , add it through the pto cover bolt hole
