NV5600 Oil Change Question
NV5600 Oil Change Question
I'm changing the oil on my NV5600. I'll pull the bottom PTO cover bolt to drain the oil. When I put it back in, do I need to RTV it? If not, what seals the bolt so that the oil does not drip out? Also, 6 qts. or 5? 5 will get it to the top of the fill plug, but some say that an extra quart can be put in thru the top PTO bolt.

Yes you should real the threads on the bolt. I have used hightack gasket sealant on pto's and tail shaft bolts in all my Internationals with great success. I have also used Loctite hvac joint compound which works extremely well but is harder to find. You can get the hightack at Auto Zone or Advanced in a smaller can for cheap money. Make sure you clean the threads on the bolt and clean the bolt hole on the tranny, also cover the entire thread surface with the high tack.
Isn't there a drain plug on you nv5600? That will be the lowest point.I had to pull the drain plug to get all the oil out of the tranny. I just pulled a pto off one of my carriers to do an overhaul on it, reassembled it and reinstalled it using the hightack on all the studs.
Here is a picture of the high tack.
