Not limited to Dealer for Pinion Factor Change
Not limited to Dealer for Pinion Factor Change
I just had 285/75R17 Toyo At's put on, besides the speedo being off it was shifting really bad. I called several dealers, and they either had no idea how to change the pinion factor or I had to wait several days to get an appointment. I was also quoted anywhere from $45 to $60. While blowing off some steam to a mechanic friend about how I could not get an appointment right away and that it was a decent chunk of change for a 5 minute job, he said his Snapon scanner may be able to do it.
We hooked up the Snapon Solus at his shop and went into the ABS menu. Sure enough we were able to change the pinion factor. We changed the Revolutions to 614 per the Toyo specifications, and a run down the road with the GPS confirmed my speedo was right on. The truck also shifted like it did with the stock tires. The dealer is not the only place to go to have your speedo corrected, any shop with a Snapon scanner can do it.
On a side note, the ecu was showing a 10.5 axle instead of an 11.5. Not sure on that one, as I know I have an 11.5.
