Is this normal power?
I have the 70 mph "drone" and just made a 600 mile trip towing a carhauler flatbed trailer with 2 quads on it. It will run 70-75 mph on cc just fine but when I drove thru Vegas on the beltway and hit a bunch of stop lights it was like I was towing a 13,000 lb trailer each time I took off from a stop. I had to really put my foot into it each time to get it to take off and the engine would make a very loud roar until I would get up to speed and it shifted so the rpm's were lower. The best way to describe the roar is like the old days when I would take the air clearner lid off my Chev. I put all new bearings on the trailer and disconnected the brakes after hauling a dune buggy around here to break in the truck and it acted the same with the buggy, no power.
Is this normal on no power and normal on the roar? Other times when taking off it would be quiet and I couldn't feel the trailer. My F250 V10 pulled this trailer better and I just hit 2500 miles plus this is my first CTD.

Maybe intercooler blown or loose hose from the sound of iit
From the sound of it I would guess that somewhere in the air lines you have a leak or break. There seem to be many reports of an air boot being loose or of the plastic intercooler's blowing out. Check all connections, look for a break in the intercooler and if all else fails take it to the dealer for warranty repair.
From your description that would be my suggestion. And no it dosen't sound normal.

I have the metal intercooler and I looked at everything but then I don't know what I am looking at either!
I forgot to mention that in the last week I have a new vibration that I can feel in the steering wheel. It is rpm related as it does it at cold start up and I can adjust rpms at different speeds to make it do it. While it vibrates in the wheel, if I let go I can't hear or feel it until I grab the wheel again and while vibrating if I let off the throttle a little it quits.

I believe you had the AC on and it was the engine fan. Next time you do that, turn off the AC and notice the difference and I only mean a small amount of time as I don't want you to melt. It is normal. If a boot would have blown off, you would loose power and it wouldn't come and go.
It makes the roar with the a/c on or off, in Vegas it was on and in Utah at 8000' and 65° the a/c was off and when it roars there is no power and acts like all 4 brakes on the trailer are on, then other times I can't tell the trailer is there. Emtpy the truck is like a sport car!
I did not count the shifts or notice the rpms, I just had to put it clear to the floor to keep up with the flow of traffic from the stop lights, I could not just ease into it or I would still be there. I did try it with and without t/h on and it didn't seem to make a difference. Funny that it did it in Vegas in the AM going up without a/c on and then did it again coming back in the late afternoon heat with the a/c on.
I changed all the bearings and disconnected the brakes on the trailer thinking that the trailer was the problem from the first tow/break in. I thought that this CTD wouldn't even feel that trailer let alone bog it down like all 4 brakes were locked up.
Coming home from work tonight emtpy I got on it a bunch of times and it ran like the sports car with tons of power, put me back in the seat with a grin on! I got this truck planning on buying a big heavy toyhauler so hopefully there is something out of whack and not the way a CTD tows.

I travel to Vegas a couple times a month. It sounds pretty normal for what you are experiencing. I have a house out there and no matter what it seems like anytime during the summer out there it just runs like crap. I get excessive smoke and it seems like a lack of power. I know that I hear the roar too and I am just guessing it is the fan as there is no leak in my Intake system, and no other probs with the truck. If you are not used to it it really seems like someone just took half of your motor away. I have yet to figure it out except for the heat!
As far as the roar/groan, its normal. Even with your a/c off, if your switch is pointed to defrost or defrost/floor the compressor is on, which will cycle your clutch fan more often. The a/c light wont even be on. It is noticable powerwise but shouldnt make your head go through the front window, especially with that little load. I would double check your trailer for dragging brakes, overtightend bearings, or a short that may be appling your brakes. You shouldnt notice that little load being back there.
Up at Duck Creek at 65° it was doing the same but not as much, still felt like all 4 brakes were locked up but that can't happen as I cut the wires to the brakes and I felt the trailer hubs at every stop going up and back and they were not hot. In Vegas when my a/c isn't on, everything is off, no need for defrost here! Thanks for the replies.
clutch fan is doing it's job, it will engage it self when the motor is hot enough.
i just towed my sammy back from an off road trip, and was in stop and go traffic, does the same thing. i have the selector switch usually on the floor, or floor and vents, and i can hear the roar every once in a while. it is the fan blades that your hearing and it will rob you of some power when taking off.
not much you can do about that, un less you go with some aux electric fans.
some people say that you can put 10,000lbs behind a diesel and not feel it there, but i think it's their feet they can't feel, because i can feel every thing when in tow, it doesn't matter if it's 2500lbs or 13,000lbs, i notice it.
but with that said, i does tow better then my 1/2 ton chevy gaser, and the milage is better while towing, so i am happy.

If you have the 610, the only time you can actually harness the extra 20hp and 55 ft-lbs is when the accessories are on (like the fan, alternator, ps pump). So with your engine, you shouldn't feel a difference.
Did your check engine light come on?
Cycle the key on/off 3 times and write down the codes that appear on the odometer. Tell us what they are.
Something is definitely wrong if it doesn't tow better than your Ford V-10.
Also, fill out your signature so we know what you're running.

I just traded my F-250 V-10 for my truck a few months ago. I haul a slide-in camper and I'm continually amazed at how much better the Cummins handles the load. It's a huge difference. So something is definitely wrong with your truck if the V-10 did better.
