I get 28mptg, that is "miles per TEXAS gallon". w/ a good Texas tail wind on the interstate I can pull off 41mptg. Of course, a Texas gallon is a little bigger than all other gallons!

OMG, some of you guys kill me! Seriously, I can pull off about 17mpg at best stock on my 4x4 03 w/35s. A little more when my mods are in the mix.

I am sure glad you guys are all driving DOWNHILL both ways. I have an 03 and the best was 40MPG but that was at 35MHP for 10 miles. The average is 15 intown and 18.5 on the hwy and 12.8 towing 10K. It also seems to be getting worst with the new fuel also. I change the fuel and air filter every 5K. I have 56K on the truck.

NOT in a Cummins, DMax, or PSD I can promise you that. Go dig the article up, and read it again. And you are right it is not impossible to get 30 MPG. ALl you have to do is get on the freeway and set cruise at about 37 MPH, and not stop. Then, MAYBE you will get 30 MPG.

Another good laugh in the morning

Yeah, a special tune that alters your overhead to read outrageous MPG, because you sure do not hand calculate those numbers

I cant break 19 mpg hand calcualted on the highway, unloaded. In town, 16-17 at best. Even when I force myself to baby it around town, I dont see that much of a differance. I agree, this new fuel is making it worse. As soon as I started to get ULSD, I watched my numbers fall. I dont know how some people claim they get such high fuel economy, i think they just beleive what they want to beleive, instead of facing the facts. I cant complain about an 8,000 lbs, Quad Cab 4x4 heavy duty truck on 35's getting 16-17, when my gasser friends on 35's are getting 9-10 mpg. Just my $.02

Did you see the ridiculous mods they did to it? The taped all the seems, folded in the mirrors, blocked off the grill, ran 65-70 psi in the tires, put a rod under the go pedal, and never broke half throttle. No AC, windows up through the desert.

Is that how you want to drive? I bought my truck to actually drive it in comfort, and enjoy myself. If people are that concerned with fuel economy, go buy a Prius or something.

It is possible to get approx. 30 mpg out of a diesel, but there is no comoft or joy in driving it. The biggest factor in economy is driving style, and I like to drive it like I stole it, so I will pay the price I guess, but even when I drive like grandma, my mpg goes up maybe 1 or 2. To each his own, but I will enjoy fossil fuels while we got them.

Now that is WAY FUNNY That brings tears to my eye's it's so funny Well, I DO stand corrected however I guess if you want to go to that type of extreme, more power to ya. Taping all seams, folding in mirrors, putting rods under the go pedal I love it!! You know, that actually makes me feel better knowing what type of person that claims these ridiculous MPG what they do and how they drive their trucks to get it. I always said I would be first in line if someone got that type of MPG to apologize. Well, I apologize to all those that get their 28+ MPG that I have insulted and said it was impossible. Now, if those same people can tell me how does it feel to buy a $40K truck and make it look like Bozo's butt with all teh fancy aero mods all teh while they are sweating on their nice leather seats with their AC turned off and killing people while changing lanes with their mirrors turned in and all they had to do was buy that Prius instead, cuz they sure are not using teh truck for what it is designed for

Thanks mjsandt for the info

SS,
haha, your so dern funny i forgot to laugh! I have never relied on my overhead unit. All mileage is hand calc. I all depends on how well maintained a vehicle is maintained and how it's driven. The special tune comes from a Smarty Beta Box I got from Marco himself. I even have a special tune for the 2nd gen. Smarty I have as well. Got 24-25 mpg on my previous 98.5 all the time using ULSD while stationed in Europe. Also while towing with my 04' I get a constant 17-18 mpg on the highway. My 04' is broken in very well. Has pulled since new. Not to ruffle feathers but I'm done with this particular thread since others are so judgemental towards others. You can take it or leave it. I dont care. IMO only one person has the right to judge me and my opinions.

Hey whatever. As long as you keep posting your MPG claims, I can keep talking about them. What I find odd is that out of ALL the people that I know personally, as well as met on teh road when I was delivering cars natiowide, and talking with other diesel owners, no one has EVER told me in person that they got the MPG you people here on the internet claim. The only time I have heard these "bigfoot" claims, as I like to call them, are on the internet, with no way to prove otherwise.

So, you claim whatever you feel that you need to, just whatever makes you feel better.

I got my overhead to stabilize at 28.7 at 55 mph 1500rpm no A/C windows up cruise control.

That is WAY to slow and hot!

Friday it looks like I make my roughly 275 mile 5,400LB tow with about 850LB in the bed. I usually do quite a bit of 1700rpm 60ish on the flat parts of this trip. 1800rpm max.

Strange but true, I often do worse coming back at around 10,000LB than going down to Corpus at 13,400ish.

It's likely to draw my average down a smidge.
