No start condition. Bad ECU????

Hi,

I have a 04 2500 that will not start. it crank over but will not start. The pickup has sat for a 1.5 yrs so far as I have been out of state. I had a relative start it from time to time to warm it up to temp and drive it around abit from time to time. When i returned I went to start it and the batteries were dead. So I put the charger on it and it would crank. I put the charger on boost and it started but then shut off. Now the engine just turns over but will not fire. The gauges before would cycle to the full range and come back down. now they will not move at all. I do not hear the ECM clicking anymore either.
What i have done so far. I put new batteries in it and used a continuity tester to check all fuses and all fusable links that I could find. All relays seem to work fine. Could this be a bad ECM. Did I fry it by putting the charger on boost with the bad batteries. Is there a way to check the ECM before I try and order a new one. Any information would help. Also the fuel pump is not pumping when i check the fuel bowl. Im assuming the ECM is not sending the signal to that either though. Also the pump is now in the tank.

Thanks

Try two known good batteries and be sure all batt connections are good. Check voltage at both batts with multimeter.

Before you condemn the ECU, get the fuel pump working............

I don't have a FSM, but I would find the fuel pump relay and manually close it to check fuel pump operation.

To me, it sounds more like she ran the fuel out then died when the pump didn't run.

Truck sat for so long, swap batteries with new ones. If the engine doesn't spin above a certain RPM, it doesn't build over 5k psi in rail and the injectors don't fire. The 04 trucks came with the lift pump on the back of the fuel filter can. You can replace it for about $100 if bad. It only takes a few minutes IIRC. Or, replace it with a aftermarket back farther and bypass the stock pump. I'm running with a $60 Carter pump right now.

(you know the stock fuel filters suck, right?)
A $20 filter head and $20 filter will give you much better filtered fuel, down to 2-3 microns.

First, batteries.

Do you have the grey keys with the chips in them? Have you tried a different key? Do you get a little red light flashing on the dash?

If so the batteries may have been dead so long the security module no longer remembers the keys.

Have you pulled the codes yet?

I didn't think of that... how would it relearn them?
How long is too long w/o power?

Also check the ground wire on left side battery post is connected. Ground wire connects to ECM and if not connected engine will crank but not start. Also check power wire to relay for in tank pump. Find relay on firewall and trace the red wire, is it connected and is fuse OK?

The fuel pump works fine when jumped. good fuse good relay. The key is just a metal key with a door lock key fob. no security system. All grounds were check and have good connection. new batteries it cranks over easily. Still no start.

There are one or two other things that affects fire on/near fuel rail... but I can't think of the name of them now. Near the back of the rail.
(sorry)
Did you check for codes? There is a turn the key on and off three times or something trick... I haven't had to do it for a few years. Most of my stuff reads codes. (edge, smarty, etc)
