No power to starter

I have an stock 06 2500. The other night I cut the truck off at a beer store to run inside. When I came back out the trucks starter would not engage. I have full power to everything else, but the truck would not crank over. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I had to have the truck towed to the dealer, where it started fine the next morning. The dealer says that there is nothing wrong with the truck. Any suggestions?

You might want to just check everything to make sure it's tight. My "96" Dodge did the same thing straight from the factory. It was a loose power cable to the starter.

Ask your dealer about flashing your TIPM to the latest update. This new power control module is doing some wierd things.

Do you have an auto or manual? The ground for the starter relay goes inside the cab, and goes to the clutch-safety switch. That switch is what drives the starter relay to ground. Maybe it is mucked? I dunno.... a suggestion

Bill , mine did the same thing. I had it towed to the dealer. Radio, lights, dash lights, bell chime, everything worked, but would not crank. Turned out to be a ground wire shorting out . It was touching the frame at the starter. They replaced the wire and rerouted it.

My buddy's 06 had a wire shorted at the starter.

He told me there is a TSB on it.

Had this happen on my 06 Mega on Thursday morning. Sine then I have talked to 2 other people it happened to.

Luckily I have a decent amount of knowledge on these trucks and I was able to fix it in about 5 minutes.

If you lay under the truck you will see the starter on the drivers side. On top of the starter is a yellow wire going into a plug that plug in on the top side of the starter. This is the power wire that fires the solenoid off.

On my truck and these 2 other trucks the wire or pin had just wiggled out of the connector a little. I guess it is actually the pin that goes into the connector not just the wire.

Anyhow reach up there and push down on the wire and wiggle to make sure it goes in all the way. You can even leave the plug installed.

Once you get it pushed down the truck will start.

I am not sure but I bet the lock in the connector has a loose tolerance and the vibration of these trucks worked it loose.

Let me know if it works on yours too!

Thanks for all the the tips. I believe it must have been the wire on the starter, because it fired right up at the dealer. If it happens again I will have a look at the wires that everyone has mentioned.
