no go goat
hello I need HELP!! 2006 4x4 auto driving on interstate 60mph started to pass another car and truck shut off, engine died lights out no power at all. coasted to a stop, shifted to park tried to restart, nothing. charged batteries from another truck and it fired back up all electrical working, shifted into drive no movement, shifted to reverse no movement, tried low lock nothing. park does not lock transmission it will roll in park. no grinding sounds oil smells fine, checked fuses. do i need to drop trans or do i have an electrical problem??
Whoa, before you go to pulling stuff, there was no apparent problem prior to the truck shutting off?
You replaced batteries and it fired right up? Were the old batteries bad, or what?
I am also not a trans guy, bit I know there was something big electrically added in 2004 to the 48RE, I would make sure there isn't something else going on.
Another dumb question, is it a manual or electric shift transfer case? Could it have shifted into neutral when the electrical event took place?

id run though all your easy electrical fixes, if your "lucky" you may just have to reflash you tranny computer, if you have one.
i worked in a 09 5500, one day it would not start, towed it to town and all the dealer did was put a new batt in it. if your batt surged or it dropped to many amps, it might have set something off? i dont get along with electronics so im not the first guy to ask... but logicly an internal failure like an input shaft should not shut down a truck like that.
