No downshift in 4WD
I was Towing the rv up a pretty good grade on gravel the other day, and put my truck in 4 lo to reduce throwing rocks on the rv and get up over the hills. When I felt like it should have shifted down it wouldn't, it felt like I would have killed the engine if I didn't manually shift it down into first gear. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

In 4LOW there is a lot of torque to the wheels. My boat is around #6500 lbs I don't need much pedal to pull it up the boat ramp. It will just about idle up the boat ramp. I haven't seen what you described, but 4LOW and transmission in low could probably pull a couple of houses and your RV.

It doesn't sound like it went into Lo. My truck is a mechanical shift, so I can't confirm on the Dodge, but most trucks with an electric transfer case need the transmission to be shifted into neutral before the solenoids will put it in low. It is common on fords for this solenoid to fail.
You'd know if it was in lo...I nearly got whiplash when I hit the gas

It definatley was in low range, but not down shifting, it felt like a manual left in say, 3rd gear just grunting like hell when really it should have been in second. Thats the best way I can describe it.

Could the transmission have been REALLY hot and the torque converter not releasing??? I've heard of that issue happening on Chevy's... just a shot in the dark...
