My stock '04 gets a mixed average of 19 - 21MPG. Easy highway driving (55 - 65) results in 23 - 24MPG. All in-town driving is a useless number because I may be sitting still more than I'm moving. My RWD truck has a 3.73 rear-end. I keep all tires at 70psi. I recently took a 10,000 mile trip to AK, towing a 25 ft. trailer and it averaged 12 MPG (hand calculated & by the overhead).

I've had this truck for 13 months. Last winter, weekend errands and daily commuting I was getting 21.0 average. It went down to 18.5 in the summer with constant AC use. It has only come back to 19.5 this winter - I think it's the fuel. I haven't had the Predator long enough to tell for sure but I think mpg is a little better than 19.5 on the economy tune. I drive easy on the throttle! Craig

Talking Mileage

I'm seeing 16 to 17 mpg mixed driving, well I call it mixed I guess, since I bought the truck new the state has added four extra new signal lights on the stretch of road I take to and from work. At times it seems like city driving if you catch the lights wrong. Highway miles the last two I hand calculated 19.3mpg on one trip and 20.0 mpg the other trip.

Unloaded, and driving like a sane person, and not some speed/power freek I have had many more tankfulls over 20mpg, than under. But with 500+hp underfoot, it's hard to resist the temtation to use it!!!!

I had a thread that cronicled my feet of trying to make 900mi. to a tankfull of fuel. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...800+miles+tank

I know i have an '06, but just too show the variations here goes.

I only hand calc. every so often but i can tell you i normally get 700-800 miles on a tank. This is totally stock, driving between 60-65 mph, and 20% city driving.

Just put on the DR.P Predator and after 400 miles i am still in between the 3/4 and 5/8, closer too the 3/4.

Best tank ever got me 889.6 miles and 39.63 gallons = 22.4 mpg (60-65 and did have 10 mph tail wind!!)

My last tank stats :

550.8 miles / 30.168 gals of ULSD winter blend (15 ppm) netted me a hand calculated 18.257 mpg......mostly rural driving (doubtful if more than 140 miles or so on this tank was sane interstate driving). The average mph (14:36 on the trip clock) was 37.726 mph. Mods are in my sig; 305/555 with 3.73:1 ratio and NV5600 six speed; Juice w/Attitude on #2, some idling for warm-up (not hardly cold enough for block heater use yet). Typically I can get low 20's (20.0, 20.1, 20.2, 20.3) on the interstate if I stay near 73-74 mph. My pinion factor has been adjusted so no compensation for the larger tire size is needed on my end.

weight of the truck and the options added can make a big difference in mpgs. Options such as 4.10 gears/auto tranny/QC/4X4/3500 DRW/big tires/heavy brush guards/etc will drag down mpgs on any truck, even with the Cummins.
I have a 600 mile a week commute, all highway miles, week after week ,month after month so I know what my average mpgs are. The truck has 60k+ and will average 22+ mpgs on that long commute. Towing my 11200 lb 5er on our last 3500 mile trip through NM/TX/UT/WY/MT/CO and lots of 10000' passes averaged 12+ mpgs for the trip. These are averages and not just best tanks. All pencil figures.
This 305/555 HO 3.73 NV5600 has given some good best tanks on long trips. One tank was 23.7 with a next tank back up of 23.2 mpgs. My previous Dodge/Cummins was a '01 2500 auto 3.54 2wd 235/460 engine and averaged 20.5 on the same 600 mile a week commute for the 75k that I put on the truck.
For comparasion, my neighbor has a '05 610 engine 2500 4x4 auto 3.73 with a 800 mile a week and she says her average is 20-20.5 on her long commute. We don't have a city out here so I don't know what mpgs would be for city milage.

I've got the early '04 HO w/ 48RE (all stock), 4.10 gears, KORE Pace and 315 BFG ATs:

14-16 mpg city (depending on if I'm running A/C or not)
17-19 hwy mpg (70-75 mph)
18-20 rural hwy (55-65 mph)

I think that's just awesome on a 7,000 lb truck with big tires and auto tranny. Good luck.

I've got a 03 6-speed...mods in signature.

I get ~22-23 MPG with the mods below...that's cruising on the highway at 75 MPH unloaded. Around town I get around 17-18 being easy on the go pedal. I always hand-calculate since the computer tells me I am getting 26 MPG on the highway...I wish.

Just did a trip of 2380 miles:

17-18 MPG around town.
19 - 22 MPG highway at 75 to 80 mph

Overall complete trip I averaged 21.35 MPG

All hand calculated. Look at sig for mods.

On my last tank (winter fuel), mixed driving including towing my snowmobiles 80 miles, my hand calculated mileage was 17.6. This is lower than I am used to. Last year I did 2400 miles in all kinds of driving conditions to Las Vegas and on to southern Arizona. My overall hand calculated mpg's were 20.4. I kept rpm's at 2050 on interstate and 1900 on two lane roads.

I know that you are looking for 555 info but I thought that I would throw out my 600 numbers for ya. She gets 18.5-19.5 on the interstate now since I wacked the muffler off (left the kitty). In town is mid 15s in stop in go 15 miles each way never making it more than 3 stop lights. My old 12V gets alot better intown MPG and slightly better on the interstate. I get mad when the MPG is under 16.5 in the city and start looking for problems. These are figures using winter fuel.
