Unhappy New Upgrade, now strange problem.

I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 CTD with a Bullydog Stage I Performance Kit, new tranny with valve body, 3 disc converter and shift kit, 3" lift, 35" XTerrains and just recently, the Bosch 300hp Injectors (yes I know they only add 30-40hp). Before the Injector upgrade the truck ram beautifully, since having them put in I've noticed a lag from idle, it takes a bit to get it moving and then sometimes right after it shifts I get major rear end vibration. I can't figure out if maybe it's wheel hop or driveline vibration or what. It feels like the truck is coming apart. I don't know if I've just hit the point where I'm putting too much torque to the rear wheels and they are hopping or what. Anyone who has any ideas on what it might be I would appreciate it. I was thinking about ordering the Kelderman Air Ride with the 4 link rear end but before I drop almost $4000 I want to make sure it will help out.

Okay I've also noticed after just driving up the highway and back that it only vibrates when I'm on the gas. I can get up to 70mph even and when I let off the gas it rides perfectly. I also know that when I'm not moving and I rev the engine it's perfect so it's something to do with me being on the gas when I'm moving.

Sounds like the drive shaft is out of phase. Meaning the angles are not matching correctly after the lift kit went on. Possibly prematurly wearing out the u-joints and throwing the drive shaft out of balance. You need to have a good reliable 4x4 shop look at the install and check the angles! Could be as simple as putting a shim between the rear springs and axel.

I do have a rear locker and I sure hope that it hasn't gone bad since I just put it in 6 months ago. Lots of things to check.. something else that I was told was that since I have a plow on it and no sand in the back maybe it's just messing up my driveline angles a little. I'm picking up the sand bags tomorrow so we'll see if that helps any.

Might want to get your tranny checked out. Could be the TC slipping/shuddering on lockup.

terraj,

Do you have the ATS Commander? Or did you skip that? It sounds to me like you are slipping the trans, going by your 1st post. I would HIGHLY recommend that you call ATS and get the Commander ordered. It not only helps with lock-up, but it also helps with pressures and shifting. I noticed a big difference with my ATS TC and Racing VB, after the Commander was installed. Shifts much smoother and at higher rpm's over stock.

I was thinking the same thing. The trans is slipping. If it was u-joints it would vibrate during acceration and when deccerating (spelling) same with drive line angle.

Sounds like a torque converter problem to me. If it only is felt when your on the go pedal & when in lock up.

Thanks everyone for your posts. It goes into the diesel performance shop tomorrow and they'll check it out with all the ideas posted here to see about getting it working. Does anyone have the number for where to order the ATS commander? I don't have one.

terraj,

Here are the numbers for ATS, and their website for the Commander:

www.atsdiesel.com
303.431.7973
800.949.6002

I think that the Commander may solve your problem, unless you really messed up your clutches or the
TC is bad, it has happened. Drop the pan and see whats in there.

ATS should really push the Commander with the TC & VB. I know I had a bit of clutch wear before the Commander was installed. Rick, at Daves Diesel told me that the Commander should solve any premature wear problems, he was impressed with the Commander to say the least. He is an ATS and BD Power transmission dealer and installer, so I'll take him at his word.

I'll give them a call. I just got the new torque converter and valve body installed about 2 months ago when I got my tranny rebuilt so I don't want to rish anything going wrong with it all, it was too expensive to do again so soon. =)
