New Super Single DPC Converter by Carolina Diesel Perfomance. Thumbs up!!!!
I have a 2005 2500 Quad cab 4x4. Other than a oil bypass system and a transgo shift kit it was completely stock. I've owned my truck since new with 7 miles on the odometer and now after 9 1/2 years with 169k miles on it. At about 155k miles my transmission started to shift weird and I knew it was on the way out. It could have lasted a couple of miles or another 50k. I just didn't want to be left on the side of the road on a trip with my family.
I don't plan on making my truck a dragster, making crazy hp, or having a triple disk converter. I wanted a close to stock truck that towed very well. Stock power was more than enough for my needs.
On the recommendation of my friend who had three of his trucks worked on by Carolina Diesel Performance in Seneca, SC I called them up. Sam (the owner) answered the phone personally and spent 45 minutes on the phone talking about working on my truck. I had initially called up asking him to install another converter by a name brand, but after talking to him I decided to go with a DPC super single converter, his valve body, and a rebuild of my stock transmission.
Since I now live in Charlotte, NC and he was about 3 hours away I went with Carolina Diesel Performance. Sam's a fellow Veteran and good guy. He and his staff worked overtime to make sure my truck was ready on time. I can't say enough about my experience with him and his shop.
My truck is now day and night difference in the way it drove and towed from stock. If I would have known the difference I would have done this the second I went over 70k and no longer had a transmission warranty. Instead of my rpm being around 2200-2500 rpm accelerating through first to third it is now 1400-1600 rpm. I no longer have to lift my foot off the throttle to lock up the converter, it just locks. On the return trip from Sam's shop, I went from 11.5mpg to 13.5 mpg towing a 7600lb rv trailer. I also gained 2 seconds from 0-60mph with the new converter.
If you're in the SC area and need work done on your truck these guys are great.
