New software available Re:04.5 mileage problems.

FYI, just visited another Dodge forum. One owner had been complaining to Dodge about his mileage. He just got a call today from Dodge, telling him that there is a software problem with the '04.5's, and new software should "be available in about a month".

Just thought you'd like to know.

New software available Re:04.5 mileage problems

In the software development business, the programmers used to wear "T" shirts saying..

FIXED IN NEXT VERSION

However, they wore those "T" shirts regardless of the version of s/w that was out..........

Good info thanks

Cheers f

I hope that is true. I would love to get better milage. I curently get 15 on my local runs to work and back. (8 miles 1 way) I think my old 98 24 valve got better than that, although I cant be certain as I never checked it.

I to would be interested in that link.

I had mine checked yesterday and of course everything checked out OK. The dealer didn't say anything about any software updates in the near future but he did say that there was nothing available for my truck at this time but that they do get upgrades from time to time.

I am new to diesels and don't know how this works. Do they ever notify owners about TSBs or do we just have to find out on our own?

That's not surprising. The dealer usually knows about these things long after the informed consumer does. They rely on us to keep them up to date most the time.

Doesn't suprise me one bit. Get it, a bit? hehehe

Anyways I read somewhere that the 04.5 600's have 50% MORE code than the 305/555's. So if you think about it, when you are talking thousands of lines of code, one or two tiny entries can lead to a whole bunch of problems, with not so easy fixes.

Look at Micro$haft. They spend BILLIONS a year to get their code perfect....and we know how successful they have been hehehehehe.

You know, it may actually be a GOOD thing haveing these computer controlled engines if you really think about it. 20 years ago, if a motor came out with bad problems in mileage, it would pretty much be stuck with it. Now a days, they can tweak the code fairly easily and fine tune it at a much cheaper cost. So hopefully Dodge is throwing some talent on it and they will come up with a fix soon.

Joe N- To anser your ? No they do not notify us of a TSB. They figure if you dont bring it complaining of a problem there is no point in telling you one exists.

Joe N, What dealer did you go to? I live in Lindale and have been to Mineola once and Allen samuels/Tyler twice and they did not fix any of my problems. Just curious who you went to because these dealers said the same thing you mentioned about nothing available and new things come out from time to time.
