Stock turbo, no mods... Interesting you are getting that much boost out of it!

Someone could have turned the WG adjust screw?

Where is your pyro probe?

Pyro probe is pre-turbo on top of the manifold at #3.
Only code is P0483 Fan Speed
Are the boost #'s I am seeing to high, or just higher than spec?
From most peoples suggestions I need to give this thing more rpm's while towing. I will give that a try as we can't do a Smarty right now but will in the near future. Thanks again for the advice this forum is great!

I am seeing 5-10mph loss on my usual test hills with the 03 vs the 95. Boost is up around 28psi and EGT's are low at only 1000F max, even in 6th floored, and lugging down to 55mph. I am guessing a fuel problem? I changed the fuel filter but there was no change, also the lift pump is already in the tank. Am I on the right track, do I have a problem? Or does this sound normal when comparing a 160 hp slightly modified 12 valve to a stock CR? Thanks for the advice.
are you getting any smoke when pulling ???????? if not, fueling problems

My '03 gives me 28psi when I push it ever since I got it. Turbo is bone stock, no fooler. I'm towing a 5th quite a bit lately (in Chicken, AK tonight listening to fireworks in the light of the night). I down shift to 4th at 50 when climbing the steep hills and had a slow start, and watch my EGTs all the time (and the potholes). Temps can run up to 1350 or so but I'll ease out of it and they will come down to 1100 or so. My probe is at #5 Cyl.

If I can do 65-70 pre-hill, chances are I can keep it to at least 65.

What gears do you have FMB? Our 5th wheel weighs about 10K loaded for the weekend, don't know if that is comparable to yours or not. Either way it sounds like I am definitely not running high enough rpms when towing. I agree fireworks here are pretty boring on the 4th, but New Years Eve makes up for it.

Boost numbers are high for spec, but not too high.

I was in the same boat when I got my 03'. I was use to running the ole' 12V below 2000 rpm. I would cruise around 70mph nicely with 3.54 gears. Then I got the 03'... my 1st trip on the highway, I'm crankin around 2100 rpm at 65... I says to myself.. I bet this turkey's got 4.10's.. sure enough, it does.. I often find myself rollin' down the highway at 60 mph at 2000 rpm... The other night, wifie and I were heading to the boardwalk for the night.. I'm in the slow lane doing my 60..lol she starts breaking my chops.. I says it don't go no faster.. I can't get the 12V out of my blood..

Same 3.73s and our Fox's GVWR is 10k and although I've not weighed it, I'm sure the first wife has it loaded quite well. We are out for 7 weeks this time. We are talking about coming up in winter to see the lights, maybe New Year's Eve is a good time to come up. Sounds like it.

Whenever I'm climbing in 6th and the load slows me to 50, I drop to 5th and occasionally have to drop to 4th as I watch the EGTs.

My 03 was sick compared to my modded 97 and a 4" muffler helped the choked oem hissing muffler and then the turbo made a huge improvement for the power band and the egt was ~1000. The stock turbo is terrible! After the turbo, my 03 would pull the hills as well as the 97 but the 97 would still run circles around the 03 empty. It took more fuel to get the 03 to REALLY run. Craig

What gear are you driving in?? I think if you would try 5th gear or 4 you will find out you do not want for power. When I leave home for the winter my weight is 23.000+ and I do not have any need for more power if I shift it and keep my RPM up.1500 and 1600rpm is to low.

I took everyones advice this weekend while towing the 5th wheel on a 500 mile round trip. It pulled better keeping the rpms up over 2000 and I even seen 1100 degrees a time or two. It still won't hold 65 on the big hills. 6th is too high and 5th is too low. But hopefully the Smarty will fix that. Thanks again for the advice.

Nothing wrong doing 65mph in 5th towing up a grade. I do it to keep the EGTs in check. Not to mention it's easier on the transmission since 6th gear is the weakest link.

I think thats the hardest speed to tow in mountains areas at, but many of the roads around here are easy to at 65... Its those times I wish I had a G56 over the NV5600..

The Smarty does allow more use of 6th. But I found that taller tires allow me to run in 5th at 65 and not be too crazy on the rpms, 2550ish. But usually I just slow to 60 and call it good, 2300.

70 is easier to hold than 65, cause of the RPMs, but can't do that all the time. Too many dirt highways up here.

I do have to appologize though, I've been towing the 5th all over the Yukon and up to Inuvik and now in Anchorage, and since telling you I always get up to 28# from the turbo, I was wrong. When pushing it normally, it goes to 23 but if I keep pushing it into higher RPMs, I can squeek 24 1/2 or so out of it. I wonder if the 28 in my head came from the use of the Preditor, which isn't installed now.
Back to morning brew...
