Question New engine needed?

So I have had my truck for several months and have put only like 5,200 miles on it.. Roughly.. About 2500 miles I had to take it in for a new tranny... Got a remanned through warranty... Now.. Its in for a possible new motor.... Here is the story.

Driving home, set cruise to 65 on highway as I always do... Oil pressure gauge went to zero, so I pulled over... There was a considerable amount of smoke coming from the engine bay. No visible oil leaking from anywhere I could see. So I got back in truck and oil pressure was back to "normal".. I limped the truck home not going over 1200 RPM's and 50MPH. I heard like a metallic clicking on the way home. Called a fellow diesel buddy and he said it may be a spun bearing. I asked another diesel buddy and said I could have a bad injector... Got home drained the oil, no metel in oil.. I didn't refill it because I know next day it would towed to the dealership...

So almost 2 weeks later no one knows what the problem is. Warranty company sent out an inspector and he put together the proposal for a new motor per the recommendation of the dealership..

About an hour ago I got a call from the dealership saying that the company called again and want them to break into cylinder number 5..... The tech that called me said he wasn't sure why... But once its open they are sending out another inspector to look at it...

Any ideas as to why they want to check that specific cylinder??

Sorry for the long post just wanted to give you guys a little background on what is going on

Thanks!

Dealership may have done a compression test. Work with these folks type folks before. It's normal for them to open it up and take a look before they come off the coin for the new engine.

Well I just got back from there.. Tech said I have a bad injector and #6 cylinder has low compression.. Which sounds on par for a bad injector... Warranty company didn't make it out to day to look at cylinder 5... So hoping tomorrow...

They may be having an issue with #5 across the engine lot and just want to inspect it, or maybe they want to see if they can sleeve it rather than whole block?

From what the tech told... he thinks they are 1. trying to stall or 2. trying to see if there is heat dmg from over heating.. but what's funny is I have not towed a single thing in the 5k miles I have drove it.. that's about all the miles I have put on it since I bought the truck....

Trying to determine if you may have possibly drove it "too long" with the bad injector. Some do it cause they don't pay attention to crap, and smoke the engine.

But how many miles total on the engine?

I've always tried to tell people that a vehicle that sits most of the time will have more problems than one that is driven daily in most cases.

Hopefully the warranty will save you some cash on this.

total atm are 120,247.... I bought the truck with 114,600 ish or 115 even... Like I said I have barley put any miles on it.. I do drive at least 3-5 times per week....

The warranty company are in the final decision process as I write this.... Hoping to know here shortly... I am hoping they just fix it either way... If it's just a few rods and bearings or a new remanned motor... just want my truck back....

Yeah, I hate to not have my truck.

Not that it matters at this point but if you drive it 3-5 times a week, are they short trips? As in barely getting the truck up to normal operating temps? This is also very hard on these engines. They need to be worked hard and at least get them to N.O.T. and run for a while. This will remove any moisture that is suspended in the oil. Letting the moisture build up is very bad.

Again good luck and hope you have a great outcome with the warranty. Keep us posted on what they actually find and do.

All my trips are at least 40+ miles one way. Some more. Always let truck idle for a 3-5 mins. Truck gets to operating temps always.

That's good. At least the warranty company can't use that against you!!

I have heard people that drive 3 or 4 miles to work and shut it down. Then 3 or 4 miles home and shut it down then wonder why the engine starts falling apart!

Maybe have done that once... and that was still 8 miles one way.... I live at least 20+ miles from anything worth a **** as far as like Bestbuy things like that.. so when I make a trip it counts...

I did call the warranty company today to get an update.... They said the company they outsource to for inspections has sent in all the data requested by them... so I am hoping Monday I will have an approval or a denial... Not know atm is making more mad day by day... If this truck was my income ie... towing, hauling I would be in a world of hurt....
