Question New and confused!

This is my first post, so here goes. I call the local Cummins dealer to get info on filters and inquired about the BHAF (Fleetguard AH19003 marine air filter) I've seen posted here. Guy on the line tells me that my stocker is good for 350 hp! So, do I really need to upgrade the intake? Plans are an exhaust upgrade (still deciding who's) a Van Aaken box, and the critical guages. Do I really need to increase the intake? will I see any improvements?

And oh yeah, I love this truck...

I don't know what truck you have, but I haven't heard of anybody here making 350 hp with a stock airbox. That's usually one of the first mods people make, as it's fairly easy and not too expensive.

I went with the BHAF on my truck listed below, not because the stock filter wasn't flowing enough,
but that the stock airboxes are known to be leaky.
Don't seal all that good.

Then, someday in the future, I'll have a good flowing filter to keep the EGT's in check,
and burn any extra fuel I have squirting into the cylinders.

And the extra turbo whine is good too.

Put the info about your truck in your signature.

The guy on the phone is probably talking about engine HP. So if you have a "600", that's a......let's see......about 25 more hp.

Seriously, your intake and exhaust mods will let you engine breathe better, add some hp on it's own while helping to keep your EGT's down from all of your other mods.

have fun.

the first thing you should do i replace the intake. i have the airaid and love it. i was able to tell a difference in the throttle response. after that the next thing would be to replace the muffler with a straight through one, dont waste you $$ on a whole system, the muff is the most restrictive part of the whole system. to get power you need to breathe.

Yep, guess thats why I'm hanging out here. Is there any charts or flow data out there to show how much more air can flow through these alternates?
