New 2500 quad cab 4x4 - clunk

Hi All,

First post for me...first diesel, too. Anyway, I picked up a new 2007 Quad Cab 2500 4x4 with the 5.9 CTD last Thursday. All was great over the weekend until this afternoon when a clunk started happening. First time it happened, we were coming off the freeway to a clover leaf style exit. I was bearing to the right around the bend, we hit a bump, and we heard a loud clunk in the rear end. Made a U-turn about 2 mins later and heard it again. Since then, big bumps cause the clunk and it's even happened a few times just turning, usually to the right. It's definitely coming from under the truck, possibly to the rear and it's pretty dang loud in the cab. I did a search of the forums and came up empty, so I'm hoping someone has had something similar. I'll definitely be at the dealer first thing tomorrow, but if anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them. My 2003 Quad Cab 2500 4x4 Hemi has had no such problems....grrrr.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Best,

Yep, that was my first thought, too. Unfortunately, the spare tire is tight and there is nothing in the bed.

Best,

-Mike

I had the same issue in my '06, turned out it was the fold flat storage...they put those elastics there for a reason. I thought it was stupid when I was snapping on the elastic band thinking there is no way it could be that loud.

Well, I got my truck back this afternoon. Ended up being a loose right rear shock mount bolt. They snugged it up and no more clunk. Woo hoo. Bummer that it wasn't properly torqued at the factory, but I'm glad it was a simple thing. Thanks for all of the input!

Best,
