I just stated that since for the earlier trucks they use #1 injector signal to start. On many of the 03-04 trucks with a bad #1 injector they will give hard or no start conditions. As for the rail cap..miller tools sells it as does cummins and 60 dollars is about right.

But if you can disconnect one injector at a time I would do that and save the 60 dollars. Just do one by one and see how the engine reacts. You will see all sorts of DTC's when you do and for evey injector you shut down, there should be a 75-80 rpm drop.

Your are going to have to pull the head anyway.....once you do that you will see the problem...the sound is twice as fast as the valve train so it has to be oiston problems,,,watch the video and count

Pulled head last night, #6 piston was scuffing the wall, the top of it had started to disitergrate and pieces had broken off which then beat up the BRAND NEW HEAD!!!

I picked up a low milage SO engine just now, hope to have the truck running by Tuesday evening.

well at least you found the problem. don't want to blow my own horn but my gut just told me it was a piston problem. I'm sure you know this but make sure you look at the tip of number six injector to make sure it's not all beat up too. Most likely is. Check the turbo aslo those pieces went some were. Hope you get it running soon.
