Need help

Was under the truck yesterday and found out my front pinion seal is leaking so i checked the diff fluid and its black! i just had it changed out 8,000 miles ago why would it be black?

Was it black-black or black metallic? What oil are you running in it? Did you pull the cover last time, or suction the old fluid out. Some folks do it that way, just asking.

Check the vent hose and check valve for obstruction or damage. Might be getting dirt in through there.

I don't know your situation but I still have the same juice in my diff that was in there at the 100K mark. I now have 207K on it and nothing wrong but my pinion seal started seeping so I changed it out last month. Dumped the fluid too and it was blacker than black. No big deal though... nothing was wrong, just the seal was getting old. Dannnng you just can't get good seals to last more than 200,000 miles. Probably made in China. Anyway... dump it when you do the seal and check it later on. Its only $4-5/qt for lube... and $45 for a danng seal and $5 for a diff cover gasket. Add the cost of some good degreaser like gas or solvent and clean out the bottom real well. Should'nt cost more than $75 to do it all.

yes it was changed 8,000 miles ago i used mobil 1 75-90 syn. its going to daeler thursday still under the 7/70 and i will have them dump and refill the diff.Thanks for the reply guys made me feel a little better
