Need Brake Pads

Need to pick up some pads for the front and went looking....
What I found is Napa has 4 different levels and auto zone has one with advance auto having one. Hawk has none..dont want PFCM they did not last long on the 96 Ram....Thinking about advance auto because they are Raybestos pads and the others can't tell what or who makes them.
Anything wrong with Raybestos Pads about 55$ or the upper end Napa at $75 or stock at $105.
What should I go with?
When I called a dealer they even told me that there was 3 offered, thinking they may get some from parts houses local and one being stock.... Whats the factory number for the same pads I have. I have had no problems with the stock pads, just cost more and not sure what ones to get and have the same ones that are on the truck now without a part number.

I just replaced my front and rear pads last week. It was a quick $230 for parts at the dealer, including KA tax. I went with OEM cause the little research I did in DTR showed them to be quite good. The part numbers are out in the truck and I'm not dressed yet or I'd share. (late work day)

Wear History:

I replaced the fronts at about 52k miles or so, just before a 10k mile trip to AK and back to KA. In that 52k, I pulled my 5th wheel about 12-15k miles including a coast to coast to coast to coast trip (KA, NC, LA, KA).

I replaced the front and rear at 112k. Fronts had started to squeek and I probably could have driven another 100 miles or so before destroying the rotor. Original rears could have gone another 10-20k or so, but I usually change them out every other front pair cause I'm already RFD. In that 60k, I pulled the 5th about 12-13k miles.

This truck is my daily driver; 75 miles to work and back. Of that, 20 is ~60MPH parkway with traffic signals and the rest is mostly freeway at 70 going to work and at least 10 miles of stop and go or slow and go on the freeway.

I have no complaints on how well they perform nor how long they last.

Good info thanks I'm only at 60K and thinking they are getting close on the front...
IF you could post the part number and what model they call them, it sounds like that may be what I do is stay stock..

Trying to dig up the receipt, might be in the truck. They were like $60 give or take. Will have to take a look at the receipt to be sure. I paid $63 for the rear, I know that since I have it filed away since I did the rear brakes couple weeks ago. Front pads receipt is probaly still in the truck.......

P/N Desc List/Net
5093267AA Shoe Kit-F 127/118
5093257AA Shoe Kit-R 119/96
Total was 214 plus tax, hope this helps.

Oh, by the way, the shoe kits do not include grease for the caliper bolts.

When you do a tire rotation, take a look at your linings. You might be surprised at how much you have left. My '04 has 66K miles on it & the pads still have lots left. But, brake wear will depend on your driving habits, i.e. are you a left foot braker who drives around all the time with your foot "lightly" resting on the brake pedal? How much stop and go you do. I'm retired and live out in the country, so I don't do city stop and go driving.

BTW, I'm also still on original ball joints, exhaust system and tires.

Tire rotation? I moved fronts to rear after my xcountry on the first set and front to rear after my AK trip on my second set. Nice even tire wear. Only thing not original in the drive train or suspension is front outboard U-Joints, tires, grease and oil.

I don't see why anyone would go with pads other than stock.??? My front ones are now ready to be changed. I've got 95,000 miles on them and they work just as good as they did when new. I've had them smoking while towing in the mountains and the disks look fine. Best brakes I've had on any vehicle. How could some other brand of pads be any better?

I found the receipt for the front's, and actually got the front pads from the dealer for $54.

I would also recommend getting the factory pads as aftermarket ones tend to have problems with longevity, squeal/noise and/or wear on rotors. Might cost more but they last a long time and wear great with little noise.

I replaced my front at 42k. The right side inner lining was worn pretty bad. Just make sure when you check the linings check the inner ones as well. The outside pads were fine and had about 30% left on them. I need to keep an eye on my right caliper. It may be sticking a bit. Hopefully greasing the bolts better will help the problem. Just so you know NAPA pads (and Carquest) are made by Raybestos also. I put Bendix pads on my truck. I have been happy with these.

Good point, WhoozYa, my inners were almost gone and the outers still had ~20%.

i went with the EBC Yellow Stuff Diesel Brake Pads. Cost me $100 bucks for the front pads but well worth it, stops like a champ. I would highly recommend them.
