My CTD on a Flat bed today
Well at 49k mi my 04.5 CTD had to be put on a flat bed and taken to the dealer.
It all started on a nice long down hill stretch of highway from Lake Arrowhead when I was setting up for the next corner and I lost power steering, I immediately realized my engine had shut off, no power steering and no power brakes. It's a good thing I was taking it easy and pretty much just coasting downhill. The truck started back up and I did not have another problem the rest of the way home (30miles), engine light was on.
Today I went to drive it with the engine light on because that doesn't scare me (probably should have) and 3 miles from home it dies at a stop light. Now I feel like an idiot. I get it fired and it dies, this repeats enough for me to get the truck out of traffic and I wait for a tow.
I'm thinking it's fuel related, a fuel pump or something. Anyone have similiar issues? I should find out tomorrow what the dealer says. I'll post the diagnosis as soon as one is made.

Without knowing what if any codes you have, my guess at your millage would be the transfer pump (also called Lift pump). Sounds like many others have posted and just like mine did. You will probably have the in-tank lift pump installed. Seems to be slightly better pump but if it fails more work to change. So far after mine was replaced no more problems there, I seem to be working on injectors now. Waiting for teh third one to fail.
The same thing happeed to my fathers 03 at 30k miles. We were in Los Angelas and going through traffic doing about 20mph when the truck just shut off, the CEL came on also. We stopped and tried to fire it up, it wouldn't start for a while but finally turned over. It took us about 3 more miles down the road and finally fell on its face. We got towed to a local rinky dink Dodge dealer(first bad experience w/ a dealer). We had to drive a Ford minivan back home, to Sacramento a couple hours away wait a couple days then drive back to pick it up. Anyways i'm headed off topic here but he currently 58k on his truck w/ the new style lift pump installed and it runs fine.
My truck has 75k on it and it hasen't had an issue like this yet, and I drive my truck hard. If it breaks great, thats a good reason for some fuel delivery upgrades.

Have you people fixed you exposed elbows on top of your fuel tank?? Dirt can get into your tank via this route. Dirt will then ruin the lift pump as the lift pump is before your fuel filter.
06s had a factory recall about this but the problem has existed for several model years.

My 04 did the same thing last nite. Must be in the SOCAL air. 66K on it. Its at the dealer now. I am hoping they will replace both the pumps. I dont want to be taking it in a month later with a CP3 pump issue. Had an 01 with a lift pump 1st and a cpl months later a vp44 pump.

Now, the elbow's on top of the fuel tank, do you have to pull the tank/bed to get to them? That's just some rubber hose and a filter, right? I assume that it applies to my truck...
