Muffler Delete

This one is for the guys that have done the muffler delete. Did it make it alot louder, deeper, or just really loud. Just curious what it would sound like. I don't know alot of people that have these trucks around South Mississippi, so don't I think I have ever heard one without the muffler.

The MD makes the exhaust note a little deeper and louder, but not too much. I have no drone when towing.

I took a decibel meter and measured the noise levels both at the pipe and at the front wheel well, to compare the MD with the noise of the engine. The result was that the MD'd pipe at idle was exactly as loud as the engine at idle. I don't remember the numbers exactly now (I posted them in another thread but there are so many about the MD), but I think both figures were around mid-90dB at idle.

So... if you can stand the noise of your engine, you can stand the noise of the MD.

Do a clean job of getting rid of your old muffler, and you can always put in another if it's too loud. I like my M.E. but it's very noticeable towing big trailers up hills.

I did mine, LOVE IT. It is a deeper tone, slightly louder, no drone towing. I have since run 2 tanks of fuel through, and I also saw a 2 mpg increase, hand calculated, but the overhead does agree. I cut a few slots in the muffler flange and spread it away from the other inlet/outlet piping just in case I did not like the sound. Guess I will have to find a home for the old garbage can because it's staying the way it is with the ME. I plan on adding a SS tip, it will add a little deeper tone.

Could you guys tell anything better on the towing end? Performance wise that is. My CTD is an everyday driver, and every chance I can get it's a fifth wheel hauler. Gotta spend time with the little girls while I still can.

I tow a fiver as well. All I can say is that the butt dyno agrees with the decision.

I did it to my 2004.5,and it sounds great.

It is pretty dang loud (but a cool loud) when towing a 5'er up hills. Alot of sound reflects off the trailer. Zero regrets in deleting my muffler.

Performance wise, if you delete the muffler, add a XZT towing module and a cold air intake...you will be one happy camper like me.

I did my 07 and I will never go back to stock! It sounds great certainly when that turbo winds up after I installed that AFE stage 2 intake!

Did mine last week and boy when I fired that thing up in the shop, everyone sure knew it. The older techs were not to happy about it, but the younger guys loved it. All the guys that drive diesels want to do it now, nothing but pipe.

Are you guys having the muffler shop throw in a 5 inch section or a flanged 4 inch section? Clamp on ? Welded on ?

Do you have to cut off the muffler or unclamp and pull ? My rig has about 11K miles on it, so I wasnt sure if it would be impossible to pull the exhaust apart to put a delete pipe in....
