Mountain Dew?

Truck is in the shop and the dealer just called to tell me the fuel looks like Mountain Dew and they can't even get it to light with a match. What's up with that?

Diesel fuel will not light with a match easily, if at all. Sounds like ULSD to me. I tried to use diesel to light a BBQ once and even with a propane torch it didn't light easily.

I haven't had a look at any ULSD yet but I might make a trip to a station and check it out. Thanks.

The new ULSD does have a greenish tint to it... and no you cannot light diesel fuel with a match unless it is atomized under pressure (i.e. fuel furnace).

I would think they would have to at least spray it to get it to light, I mean, it's not GAS.

Just talked to the dealer again and they found out the new ULSD does look like Mountain Dew and they have moved on to other "quesses" as to why it won't start.

Or hold it up to the tail pipe of a 6.4 powerstroke

I'll admit I used my drain valve on the fuel filter to get some diesel so I could light a wet camp fire once (yes, I was camping with the scouts ). It worked, but definitely not like gas.

Guess those new 6.4 owners have it easier than me when it comes to lightin' fires.

Yeah, no kidding get your truck out of there. BTW, diesel is great for burning slash piles. Burns nice and slow and doesn't explode like gas.

Sounds like you have a diesel "mechanic" that hasn't purchased any diesel in the last six months or so and shouldn't be allowed to play with matches or your truck. Best of luck, you are in our prayers.

any shop that doesnt know that it takes more than a match to light diesel fuel is a shop I wouldnt be going to anymore

Thats why when I go camping I cant just use the extra diesel cans in the truck to light fires or grills and I have to take a 5 gallon can of gasoline with me.
