It landed DEAD CENTER IN THE LANE on this two lane road. I ended up hitting it dead center on the air dam (naturally broke it, plastic), punched a nice gash in the radiator and the very absolute bottom of the intercooler.

By the time I get turned around, a guy in a new E500 MBZ, ran over the jack, and wedged it under his car for a good 200 ft, ripping apart under his car.

So now comes the repairs.....

Seems that the radiator is dealer-only item....$675.00 bucks for a radiator????????
The air dam is $65 (for .25 cent grade plastic)
As for the intercooler, no reason to install a stock piece. Where is best place to get a aftermarket (BIG) intercooler? As for the Banks setup, I already have a High-Ram, so I wouldn't need that part. What about the other kits?

I am all open to suggestions. As for the insurance, the deductible is $500 bucks.

All because I wanted to go get something for dinner.....most expensive dinner I've ever had!!!!
most insurance companys have less deductable for a comprehensive claim than a collision claim...for example my deductable for collision is $500, my comp. is $100..... and it sounds like your claim woud be a comprehensive claim..... good luck

Has something similar happen many years ago. A guy lost some 6x6 concrete reinforcment wire off of a trailer. It was dark. I just saw some small sparks coming from his trailer. Thought he might be dragging a chain. Next thing I know I this roll of wire bouncing down the side of my truck. I caught up to him and got the plate number. Did search. Found out he purchased the Dodge Ram 2500 he was driving from a dealer I used to work for. I got his info and called him. Of course he denied everything. I gave the info to my insurance company to pursue him if they wanted. I got a new paint job.

I would just eat this one if I were you and not turn it in to insurance. I had a driver window busted out of another truck I had by a thief and they put a dent in it which had to be fixed. Of course the estimate by a body shop was, I forget how much, but more than the $500 deductable. Long story short, the insurance company sends me a check to get it fixed. I end up getting the window fixed which hardly cost anything, and never did fix the small dent. My rates went up about $500 the next year and it was about 3 years before they ever went back down to reasonable. Lesson learned: If it's under a grand you're better off paying out of pocket because you will pay out of pocket for sure one way or the other. In cases like this insurance is useless.

A good friend in Co. got killed last yr when another car hit a spare tire/wheel in the road and knocked it into her car. The cops investigated vigorously to find the owner of the spare but no luck. They would have charged the owner with manslaughter. Craig

I hate it when people don't adequately secure a load. I always get made fun of for the way I tie things down, but I've never lost anything. I also hate it when I have a load and someone is following closely behind me. People just don't think. Once I drove to Abilene from Dallas to pick up some wooden crates that contained lots of computer equipment we use in trade shows. These crates are about four feet tall, two and a half wide and five feet long. The crates were at the warehouse of a company that had gone to the show with us and some of their guys helped me load them on to my trailer. We slid the crates easily forward once we lifted them onto the trailer and before I could hop off to go get my tie down straps, one of the guys who had helped me yanks back and forth on the crates a bit and says, "That should ride fine." I started to laugh at the joke but when I looked at the guy, I realized he was serious. I really wanted to tell him he was a $%#^&@% idiot, but instead, I just gave him an incredulous look and told him the wind would blow them off before I even hit highway speed. I guess at least he didn't tell me I was stupid for tying them down like I've had some people do.

I learned a long time ago when I drove long haul to tie every thing down as if not the great state of CA and or DOT would give you a big ticket when you crossed the scales if they did not think you had it secured good enough. So now I never haul anything that is not tied down to the hilt and then some so that it will pass any CA weigh master’s eagle eye or DOT inspectors.

Hate to play "devils advocate" here, but were you tailgaiting??? Granted; he didn't secure his load, but you were traveling close enough to him to see it happen and not be able avoid it. Sounds to me like you might have been a bit too close!!! AKA TAILGATING!!!!!! No offense, but this is what yours and his insurance company are likely to say before a settlement!!!

Thats what I was thinking. OR, he may have pulled up on the box after it was discharged from the truck minutes earlier and couldn't avoid it due to inattention or, more likely, excessive speed. He stated it was "dead center" of his lane so he must have been somewhat attentive to the road.
No offense to the original poster, BTW.
