Mopar Oil???
I asked the parts guy at my dealer a couple months ago and he said "I know it was never Valvoline. It use to be Chevron, but I think it is now Mobil". I'm not sure he's right. I know the factory oil had a strong odor. I put in Mobil Delvac 1300 and there is no odor. I've also read here that Valvoline has no odor and Shell does have an odor. Sooooo, could the factory oil be Shell or maybe Chevron Delo??

How do you know this? I'm not questioning your knowledge, just curious if the information is available somewhere.
Well I asked my local Dodge dealership about the oil they use in diesels and got this answer. For warranty work they use bulk Mobile CJ-4 oil, all the other times they use bulk Rotella T CJ-4 oil.
I was told by my dealership that they use Mobil also. I am using the Valvoline 15w40 Premium Blue and the Stratapore filter. You can take any oil you like to your dealership if they are changing it for you, I do my own oil changes and lubes, actually I pretty much do it all myself.

It's true that Cummins ships the engines with Valvoline 15W40. Local dealer did'nt know, since my new Ram is my 1st diesel I called Cummins tech support to verify. I think every dealer will use whatever oil they can get the best deal on. My local Lithia uses bulk Pennzoil with Chevron Delo, Shell Rotella and Mopar available at extra cost. Unless requested otherwise they use Pennzoil filters also. They charge more for Mopar filters. Personnaly I have always had good results with Valvoline so I'm going to stick with that. BTW, Wal-Mart has Mopar oil filters at $9.95. The dealer cost is $22. Shucks has K&N filters at $9.95 which is nice since the K&N has a nut on the bottom for eazy removal.
