4WD Disengagement

I have an 06 with the manual transfer case. When I set it back to 2WD it seems to take a while before the 4WD actually disengages. Is there any way to change this? I was riding with a coworker who has an 04 with the electronic controlled, his did the same thing.

Change your auto locking hubs to manual locking hubs. Kinda $$$.

Changing the hubs will have nothing to do with it. It takes a while because there is a load on it. When you shift out of 4WD back off on the throttle then step on it again. If you are in a corner it might wait till you straighten out because of the corner induced difference in axle speeds. Just take all the load off the drivetrain and it will immediately come out.

Doesn't backing up a few feet disengage the hubs? Works for me.

Stock hubs are always locked...nothing to disengage.

you don't have hubs...

the reason it takes a bit is because its under load. back out of the throttle, shift to 2wd, back on the throttle. same way when shifting to 4wd.

Under load either by throttle or driveline binding. If the load is from binding you just have to wait till the drive line unwinds. A few left and right turns or baking up perhaps.

when i go in or out of 4wd (i have a 6-speed also, so this may not work for you) i push in the clutch, slect what i want on the t-case, let out the clutch with no go pedal, this kinda gives it a negative torque, then i give it just a little go pedal, for some posative torque. iv never had a problem with it taking any amount of time going into or out of 4wd.

Like they said- just let off the throttle and it goes out of 4X4.

Mine comes out of 4x4 instantly...I know this because when I'm driving around town in 4x4, I always reach down and take it out when I turn a corner, and then after I'm straight again I put it back in. If I don't do this it will hop the front end around the corner.

Now if your talking about the 4wd light on the dash going out after you shift it back into 2wd then yes take the load off, but if your talking about the actual hubs unlocking right away then like I said earlier you have to change from auto hubs to manual hubs...some members here has done the conversion, do a search on manual locking hubs.

2003 and up trucks do not have automatic or manual locking hubs. The only thing that engages and disengages is the transfer case.
