Mobil 1 5W40
Mobil 1 5W40
Just changed my oil for the first time. Used Mobil1 Diesel turbo Truck. Anyone else using this oil. I see a lot of threads about Valvoline etc.
My question mark key won't work on this forum. What's up with that.

I'm using it. I noticed that the engine runs a bit smoother with it. I'm probably going to switch to Amsoil AME or HDD at the next change. Another CTD owner I met claims to have gained 1 mpg by going with the 10w30 Amsoil HDD full synthetic oil. The AME oil is a 15w40 full synthetic.

From what I have read Cummins doesn't recommend synthetic oil until after 20k.
I am interested in switching to Mobil/Delvac 1 after break in myself. I am currently using Delvac 1300 15-40. The current info on Mobil's website lists a TBN of 12 for Delvac 1, which is a pretty good number. I would like to see a full analysis of the additive package in Delvac 1 before switching to it. Maybe TDR will break down and test it for us.

I went to Rotella Synthetic at 3000 miles. Prepping for the hot Oklahoma summers and the resulting super hot turbo.
Synthetics will not burn or sludge up on the hot bearing like regular oil will.
It quieted the engine down slightly and it seemed to idle smoother.
It's more expensive to use for oil changes at 5000 mile intervals but it will sure protect the engine better at temperature extremes.

I had it in my engine for for most of the winter or about about 3600 miles before I dumped it and tried Amsoil 5w30. All I can say about it is my engine runs quieter at all speeds, even better at start up with Amsoil in it then it did when I had Rotella 5w40 synthetic in it.
