Millage

Is the computer is that far off is it better hand calculate or worst mine is 8000KM and is averaging 18 mpg so far . If I do it by hand is it gonna be better or worst.

Should it get better with more millage on the truck.

Thanks

Hand calculated shows actual results. They are usually "worst" than your overhead reading.

The overhead computer reads out in miles per U.S gallon. I think most Canadians use imperial gallons. I find that my overhead readout is so inaccurate that it is close to the miles / imp. gallon. (I'm averaging 20 miles per imp. gallon, with 23000 km on truck)

The overhead fuel mileage is for the previous 600 miles or since the last time you hit the "Reset" button. Unless you do a Reset every time you fill up, your calcutated will likely never match your overhead.

My overhead is consistently over by 1.2-1.5. For example, last Saturday I drove a 500 mile round trip. I left Saturday morning at 530 am and was home by 1pm. I kept my cruise set on 68 the whole way there and back. It drove me crazy but I wanted to see what I could get. My overhead showed 19.6. I filled up and hand calculated 17.9.

To calculate, top your tank off, then the next time you fill up top it off again and write down how exactly how many gallons you put in then divide miles driven/gallons

Like he said but when you top off the tank the first time, reset the trip meter. The next time you top off use the trip meter mileage to calculate. Oversized tires on a non-corrected speedo will affect the results.

The overhead can be as much as 3 MPG low or 3 MPG high.
