milage on an 06 mega

well when I bought the diesel they told me I would be getting really go gas milage with it (10 city and 17 high way at 70 miles per hour) why is that my wife in the 06 quad cab with the hemi is getting better gas milage then me(15city and 20 high way at the same speed) . I only have about 3000 miles on the truck will it gat any better or is this what it is going to be?

Give it time. I have an 06 with 5900 miles, towed 10K about 4 times so far and getting via the computer 13 city unloaded, 16/17 hwy unloaded and ~9/10 hwy loaded.

Do a search and you will find lots of threads on this here.

Mine is the same as 06megacabman.

I squeezed 18 out of it for 1 tank with mostly highway, 13.5 in town lots of stop and go. 9-10 so far towing my 5th wheel.

I only have 3300 miles so I am sure it will probably improve a little.

It'll get better after about 15,000 miles. Mine is just shy of 5000 miles. I'm getting about 13 city and 17 highway. I got my best mileage when I put 2600lbs of block in the back and went down the interstate. I got 18.5. It had less than 1000 miles on it that time. It went down after that for some reason.

1st your 2500 CTD outweighs your 1500 hemi by about a ton.

2nd It will get a little better around 15-20k miles (quicker if you pull some heavy loads)

3rd (and this is the bad news) I have found the computer to be right at 3 mpg higher than actual (hand calculated). Sorry.

The 10 and 17 will be about right, maybe a little better city (+1-2) keep in mind this will be hand calculated. You really cannot go with the computer read out until you get a baseline on what yours reads and the hand calc.

Ok, trade your wife trucks...see what she gets driving yours. If she is getting 20mpg out of a hemi.....perhaps her voodoo will rub off on the diesel. I've driven a half dozen hemi's at work and none of them get much over 14 on the highway.

I'm getting 15-17 mixed driving.

I just did 121 miles the other day and filled up just to check...98 of it was highway 65mph max, 60mph minimum and I got 20.2mpg hand calc. I'm at 13.5k miles.

my overhead was reading 19.6mpg and it was still climbing .1 every 2-3 miles so I probably could have got another .5mpg I would guess.

Some say the sweet spot on auto's is 1900rpm, mine seems to be around 1750? At least fuel mileage wise, not sure towing yet.

MPG increases as you put on the miles. I've got 49000 miles on my 06 Mega and hand calculated, 19 (with some city) to 22 MPG country. Keep the RPM under 2000.

Any of you tested MPG difference with an additive such as Power Service?

I didn't notice any difference with PSP? Have to factor in that my wife started commuting with me again so I have more surface streets and such now, so it should have gone down maybe the PSP is what is keeping it the same?

I haven't done a with/without PS test for a long time, but when I was first experimenting with it (around 8-10K miles) it would be about 1 mpg better with the PS (1/2 oz per gal) than without.

Hopefully your hand calculating your mileage and not going by the overhead lie-o-meter.

Only way to truly tell what you're getting is to do a little abacus action.
