michelin ltx ms2 285-70/17
we do a lot of work for a local tire company in town..i need rubber..he said this is the tire, i want the 285-70. they are d rated, but very close weight rating as my stocker e tires. anyone running these?? i read excellent reviews. size wise, any rubbing issues etc? i know it will throw my speedo, anything else to add? thanks.
If they came in an E rating I would buy them, but I'm not willing to put a D on my truck. I'm mainly concerned about liability if I had a wreck while towing. The 285 will change your speedo, but the dealer can reprogram it to that size.
I have them on mine. I bought the truck with them on it, so I don't know how many miles total they have but I have put 26K on them with about half the tread left. I do a combination of empty highway driving and towing for work and they are fine. My biggest trailer is a 32ft. enclosed gooseneck that is new and although I have only hooked to it twice fully loaded over about 1600 miles they work well. I always run max psi (65) cold no matter what. I am selling the truck and when the tires on my new truck are gone I will be buying these again. I hope that helps you with your decision-

The LTX M/S is the best all around tire I'v ever used. Quiet, long lasting, stable, and grip in snow and ice like nothing else. I'm on my third set.
I can't remember what size I put on last year, but they are E rated.

I wouldn't worry about a D rated tire with 3000# + capacity unless I hauled/towed heavy. I've had 2 sets of 285 - D tires on 3/4 ton diesels, current tires being ProComp XMT's 285-70 D. They hold up fine treadwear wise, no punctures off road (yet!), haul a 6klb boat/trailer with a loaded bed, no problem. They don't squat down, no squishy ride, feel like a 80 psi E tire when aired up.
In the winter I run them 45 front 35-40psi rear for traction and they're plenty stiff enough for that as well.

Good to hear about the MS2's. I want to go the 285's also. Always had the LTX's in 265 and they are great. The MS2's have a 70K wear warranty and look to be quiet with only 13/32 tread new. Mich says OK to use on the 2500 diesel. I saw set of Nieto 285 Terra Grapplers in E and the guy raved about them as to quiet and smooth. Still think about the 285's towing 8k on the grades, power loss and all,,,, any experience with that?
