Ok just updating the truck issues. So far nothing new. But i havent really done anything to it since i last wrote anything.
I just made the trip back from michigan to colorado. Truck ran pretty much the same. Except i dont think it has a whole lot to do with the fuel level anymore.
WHen i left michigan it was 58 degrees. I got into iowa and there was a nasty cold front that went threw and the temp dropped to 8 in about 2 hours of driving.

Truck ran horrible. I filled up before i got to the cold spell. But it was really bad. Like i could barely get up a rolling hill in iowa. Speeds down to 40mph and not towing a thing.

Was alot of black smoke. no power. same code.
I thought well maybe it was some gelling going on. I bought a diesel additive to prevent that and it seemed to help a little bit.

Ran much better. At one time after fill up it ran pretty much like it was supposed to after about 10 miles of driving on the highway.

So yea at this point im really scratchin my head. But after that tank ran out i filled up again and back to running bad again. Even with the additive.

So things to check this week.
Cascade overflow valve. Can you check these by looking at them? or just have to buy a new one and hope for the best.

Gonna crack the banjo bolt on top of the high pressure relief valve and see if i am leaking anything at idle and under load.

Also i read a thread with someone with my exact symtoms and it turned out to be a map sensor. Replaced everything in his fuel system then tried that and thats what it was.

So i guess im asking if anyone knows about checking the cascade overflow valve or do you have to just buy a new one. And do local places usually have one?

Sorry for the long post!

ok so i think i may have figured it out. Well atleast part of it.

I was messing with all my connections under the hood. Fca. map, and then i got to the rail pressure sensor and i stalled it out moving the wires around. Started it back up and i could i get it to do all sorts of funny things. So i am assuming that connector is SHOT.

Anyone know where i can order another one? the wires seem to messed up to get a solid connection.

Sounds like one of the wires broke inside the insulation. Good find. May be able to find a replacement pig tail, but I think you will have to learn how to repair the connector. They are easy once you have the right tools and the correct terminals.

yeah im thinking so too. I tried to rig it tonight to see if i could get it to work correctly. But one of the wires was broken off completely and i couldnt get it to make a good connection since it was broke right off at the plug. Any write ups on replacing wires in connectors like that?

Ill probably look on google for something but we'll see.

Go talk to your local dealer. They usually have a large selection of terminal repair kits that they use. Then all you need is the terminal release tool.

Ok tried out more things today. Tried off a working truck, high pressure relief valve, map sensor, and cascade overflow valve.

None which fixed the problem. not much else to try out. Maybe the cp3 at this point. UGH.

I still say we need to know what the pressure is doing...

Stop throwing parts at it and take it to a good diesel shop... It may just save you money in the long run.

yeah i havent thrown any money at it since the injectors and lift pump. Just been borrow parts from peoples trucks for now. WHen taxes come ill do that. Right now i cant afford to drop it off right now.

So in the mean time im gonna keep trying whatever i can til the time comes to take it in.

Wish someone had a spare cp3 to throw on quick and see what happens.
Thats kinda where im at now. But i agree with you on letting a shop figure out it out.

p0251. So its looking like fca or cp3 may be the problem. Im going to swap the fca with a buddy here in a couple hours and see what happens. But any other quick checks pertaining to that code would be helpful.
When the cap is loose or off you will get a check engine light, it will go away, happened to me a few times.
