Well, I ended up getting a stock linkage from the dealer (don't say anything!) and installed it (actually on the opposite side from the photos). I did drill a hole through the linkage arm and safety wired it to the shifter armature in the event that the bushings fail in another 10 years.

Thanks again for all the ideas and photos - sorry for your extra effort Shorts!

I wonder if the bushing would last longer if it was lined with a metal bushing (rubber on the outside to dampen vibration, metal inside for strength)?
The design of those cheesy little urethane or rubber compound bushings is such that it will fit around the part of the linkage that has been undercut leaving a **** at the end that fits through the reduced ID of the bushing. Sort of a rubber circlip type thing that keeps the linkage rod from slipping out. I replaced mine the other day as the old bushings disintegrated. I went to shift into 4 hi and the lever flopped around so got under there to look and it was only made onto the transfer case shift link point. Lucky I didn't lose the whole thing.

Oh, and don't forget to double nut each joint.
Awesome link! I will source some stainless all-thread and pick up a couple of those right-angle ball joint links and fab up a permanent solution to the cheesy little rubber bushings on the stock linkage.
