look onder the truck and see if the trans case is aluminum or cast iron. if aluminum then it is a G56, cast is a NV5600. You can also tell if it has 4.10 gears in the axles then it is the NV 5600(G56 isn't available w/4.10's)

Easiest way is to look at the gear shifter. Reverse on a NV5600 is over to the far upper right, above 6th gear.. Reverse on the G56 is on the left, under 1st gear.

I like it a lot. Mostly b/c of mileage reasons, and control of motor. On the flip side, I'm kind of lazy when it comes to driving and I do a lot of phone calls and paperwork when I'm working in it, so I like my auto as well.

Superman how do you like your big rig exhuast sound. Sounds awsome to me!!

I LOVE the exhaust. I wasn't sure how it would be with it dumping in front of the rear wheel...but now that I've had it for a while I don't want it any other way.

potential can of worms this one is... the nv5600 is basically the same trans that has been in the trucks for 5 years. cast iron housing... single piece flywheel.. the g56 is new for dodge. aluminum houshing, dual mass flywheel...

most here will say the nv5600 is best

Thanks nickleinonen, I have the nv5600 in my truck and have not had any trouble yet. It was a little hard to shift at first but is fine now.

Jeff, a good place to start with an explaination is with Standard Transmission's website
and the FAQ's. Look HERE for an explaination and the problems associated with the DMF.

Thanks. That page has a pretty clear explaination.

Me thinks I'm glad I don't own one.
