Magnaflow 5" Install

Yesterday I helped install a turboback(kitty relocated to garage, shhh!!) Magnaflow 5" stainless exhaust on my buddy's '05 CTD. We were really impressed with the quality of construction and excellent fit. Thanks to a sawsall, quick removal of stock system went well. Moderate gains in h.p. and torque were recorded by Diesel Power Magazine. Especially noteworthy were the welded-on exhaust hangers and stainless band clamps that allow for future removal or adjustment of the system. Major improvement over my 4" system I installed five years ago on my 2nd gen. Sound levels and tone are very acceptable with minimal drone although this is a reg.cab. We give it a "two thumbs up rating").

Did you go for a ride after the install? How is the sound/drone level?

Minimal drone although this is a reg.cab. It was unladen and only has a fiberglass shell. It was on second level Juice/Attitude level, pedal to the metal and no problem with drone. It did however produce elevated sound levels to the unsuspecting public but hardly objectionable compared to my 2nd gen. idling at an intersection.

So i take it the the bigger exhaust didnt hurt performance and provides the right amount of back pressure? Im looking at the turbo back system for my 06 when i get it? Thanks for the info i was waiting to see if anyone was gonna run this system!

No the owner felt it had no loss and the Magnaflow muffler is advertised as providing adequate backpressure. I spoke to him a little while ago and he's really pleased. It really was a neat install. Magnaflow does sell a 5" Cat. for those who desire to stay legal. The whole system(no cat) delivered was only $535.00 or close to that. Five years ago I thought my aluminized 4" Jardine was a deal @ $425.00. It has worked out well though after all this time. The only bummer of the install was tolerating the "Ranchero" musica blaring out of the neighbors' house next door. The owner lives in Vista,Ca. Article is in Diesel Power mag. March 2006 pg. 138

C'mon Dave, you're a Cali guy, and you know deep down inside that you're down with that Ranchera music blaring at 110 db.
