M.p.g.

Just out of curiosity... What kinda mileage is everyone pullin out there? I run a 4.10 rear end, 6 speed, 2WD, HO and get 18-19 no matter what. Stop light to stop light heavy traffic, 70 mph down the highway, the only time it drops for more than a few miles without comming back up is over 70 mph. then it goes down hill fast (to be expected with the low rear end). but even 75 will drop it down to 17, and 80mph will put me at about 16. anything faster than that is just spinning to many RPM's for my likeing.
A guy I talked with at a local parts shop said his 4X4, SRW, automatic was only getting 13-14 even on the highway, and another guy said his duramax 4X4 was getting 12-13 or so.
OUCH!
I've kept records of my mileage and gallons used since new, and the little trip computers never been off more than .2 mpg in 4,000 miles of driveing.
only mod so far is an AFE filter installed with 8 miles on the odom..

You're doing better than most I've heard from with 4.10's. I assume your truck's pretty new from the mileage. I did a bit better (20 or so) from new also. I'm lucky that my computer's been right on as well. I think most of us can't rely on the trip computer, and a lot of people just leave it on copass, enjoy the ride and gooooooo!!!!!

One of the things that I really like so far is that I can do 70-75mph for 200miles on a highway where the limit is 70mph, and it makes no difference if I was on a highway where it is 50 or 60 mph and I'm doing those speeds. (Which is really hard with the Cummins!)

I did leave out my truck's an '04. ordered it 9/9/03 got it 10/13/03 with 3 miles on the clock. I got the factory bed cover which I'm guessing is helping out with the highway mileage even though it is pretty loose fitting, flops like a flag in the wind! no real way to snug it up that I've seen.

A guy I know couldn't believe how bad his mileage was pulling his fifth with an '02 1 ton with 4.10s. He had an early 90's 3/4ton with higher gears that made a lot better. He can't believe we make 20. He has an '02 with duallys. I've read all kinds of posts on here about 3'd gens. with 4.10's who are making less than with 3.73's. It sounds like you're doing great!!

I am glad someone asked about this... Mine seems normal in every way, idles good with no smoke, pulls hard, runs great, however... I get only about 14 in town empty with a light foot, and only about 16.5 at 73mph at about 2 grand on the tach, 2 grand is the secret to mine, more than that and it drops significantly.
Im not upset ( much ) but everybody seems to get better than me.
03 ho, 3:73, 4dr,4x4 22K on the odo.

One other thing I forgot to add is that I've used Rotella DFA in almost every tank since the truck was new, the stuff really does seem to help quite a bit on mornings when its between 10-40 deg. outside. but if you have ANY sense of smell steer clear of the stuff! the exhaust burns your eyes and lingers in the air for 10 minutes after I leave the parking lot. My wife complains about it all the time.
I traded in a 2002 3/4 ton, auto, that was getting 11 mpg empty on a good day for this truck and havent regreted it for a second.

I'm getting 17-18mpg around town and anywhere from 20-22mpg highway depending on the speed I'm driving.
Two of my buddies have '03 CTD's, both are 2500 4x4s with 3.73s, one is a SO/47re and the other is a HO/48re. Both are very close in mileage, about 14mpg around town and about 17mpg highway.

25000 miles and getting 17.5-19 depending on how fast I drive. I usually run the highway about 70-75 mph. Its been a while since i reset the overhead but use to reset it about once a month. When I reset it will linger around 20 for a while, but it will slowly creep its way back to reality. I use power service additive regularly.

all these posts answer 1 question I've always had for sure!
Everybody tells me that as the vehical breaks in it will get beter mileage. I've owned 39 vehicals in my life (certainly NOT all new), but I've NEVER seen this magical increase in mileage without some type of modification.
Looks like I'm not the only one!
You caint beat the mileage we're all getting from trucks that weigh 8,000 lbs or more! (actually put mine on a scale and it comes in at 7,800 for a 2WD!)
